Rolling eyes Are you a Junior size, want to save on clothes?

A trick I found, if you are a small size, is to shop in the "Girls Department". There are alot of the same styles that are in the Junior department, and the prices usually cost less. Even if you are a larger Junior size, a size 14 or 16 girls will usually work.

And don't stop there. Try the boys department as well! Many times you will find tshirts that work well. My daughter borrowed some of her younger brother's shirts which prompted her to look in the boys dept.

And if you have small feet, like I do - shop the boys department for tennis shoes. They're made to last & they cost way less than the ones in speciality stores for small feet!

Wonder what a size 7 in juniors would translate into in Girls?

My daughter is a 9/10 and can wear a 16 in girls in some styles.

I was thinking about this thread last night and I remembered that I bought dd a sweatshirt for xmas from the guys clearance rack at Aeropostale. It was only $7.50. They had lots of mens smalls. If you're truly frugal you will always think out of the box!

Another item that we buy is the mens/boys A underwear shirts. My daughters wear these as tank tops under other shirts and also for sports. You can find them at Target on the endcaps on clearance because someone returned an opened package because it was the wrong size. I have found them for .71 many times or $2 for a better quality shirt.

I do this with skirts especially...a girls size 14 or 16. I am petite and it is a lot cheaper to buy a girls skirt than to shop for petite skirts in the juniors/misses/petites departments.

Pants it does not work as well with unless they are a loose fit style. After 2 children, my hips don't fit into girls clothes :-)

My dd wears some boys clothes and she does not mind at all, she just doesn't go around telling people it was from the boy's dept.

I tried the kids department once but my hips are too big. I didn't think I had any until then. I think I'll take Amy's suggestion and look into buying the loose fit there.

A 7 juniors is usually a 14/16 in the girls department - unless it's a really loose fit thing, then you'll want to look at the size 12.

Just remember that the girls department clothes are usually a bit shorter and don't have the tapered waist of the junior clothes. However, for some strange reason, the boys department jeans DO have the extra hip room - especially in the boys student sizes.

Girls' sizes are also shorter in the stride. So, if you are long waisted like I am, you really have to try them on first. Otherwise, you'll end up with a permanent wedgie.

Guess I'll have to hit the girls section in Belk sometime. I was in the other day and when I walked past the girls section there was this adorable silver and blue sweater. Would love for it to fit me!

Did you also know that even if you are not a Petite size, you can buy clothes in the Petite department? I am 5'9" tall, and I can wear some petite tops, capri pants etc. Most of the time when I go in a store I see the cutest clothing, but it's always in the Petite department. This year I decided to try on Petite Capri pants, and you know, they fit great, so I bought 2 pairs.

LOL about the petite capris. I do believe you can wear them at 5' 9".

I am 5' 2" with short legs (long torso) and I cannot ever wear capris. They look like pants that are just a little too short for me. I have tried girls capris but I cannot get them big enough in the waist/hip area without having them too long.

Oh, well I guess I just give up on wearing capris unless I want to make them myself or find easily hem-able ones.

    asherman,

I completely understand about the capri problem! I'm 5'4" with an average length torso and have always had a hard time with those too ... until I discovered "clam diggers"! They are the shortest type of capri-type pants I've seen, and they're nearly perfect for me, because they end up the right length for regular capri's! I found one pair at Wal-Mart this past summer, and another pair at Lane Bryant, so surely other department stores carry them as well... I hope this helps ya, because I plan on getting more use out of mine now that the weather's cooling off some!

Thanks! I have yet to find any that are short enough for me, but maybe someday...

Yesh I buy all my shorts from the boys department in size 16 (I'm 5'2" 115lb), usually from Old Navy. Because I like the cargo shorts that come down to your knees and not the ultra short girllie shorts Mainly cuz I have blindingly white legs as well, so I cover up as much as I can when I go out in public so not to harm people

GAP, and it is just me or do they see to be scaling down their girls and boys dept?, has sizes up to XXL, and I've gotten a couple of skirts from that area as well.....
