Just Testing to see if I can put banner inside post-Question??

Toby(others)-I'm just tinkering around. I see that HTML code is OFF ..so I assume that it's not possible to make a banner that has link visible in a post? Although you can have image viewable as long as you either attach it or have your own web page to store image on?

Well-I can at least post a pic of the banner I created-without http link. Thought it was decent for a rookie


BTW-Thanks Toby a while back for telling me about the site that allows you to reduce file size for gifs & jpegs-reduced a 80k file to 8.5k Nice !!

MrB, ever since the new and improved version of DOD was put in place I'm at a loss on attachments and why they don't work for me. HTML code is off, but you can use the VB code...

From the help page:

The [img] tag allows you to embed images within your posts. You can also combine this tag with the [url] tag to maked images become links.

Example: don't use spaces...

This is linked: [ url=http://forums.dealofday.com/index.php][ img]http://forums.dealofday.com/images/misc/vb_bullet.gif[/img][ /url]

MrB, If you want me to host something for you I can - np. You can also use photobucket.com to store images and use the url they give you for the img. Let me know if you need any help.

Toby-I'm obv. doing something wrong. Can you tell me what both of those url's are suppose to be linking to?? Not sure if I said that well. Does the banner(image) need to be posted on web page or can it simply be put in same directory as index.htm or index.html ??

Hi Mr. B. All I need is the url of the site for the banner. I tried seeing if Extra Green had a site, but wasn't successful at locating what it is. Just put down here the link to the site. I'll fix you up then with a link and show you how to post the banner with the link inside.

In answer to your question, because of the nature of the image, yes you need to have the image file hosted. I can do that. In fact I've already taken the image and put it up on my site where I host images. All I need now is the link to the banner's site.

I sure wish email notification was in effect here. I'll keep checking back to see if you posted!

Yes Toby-I didn't register web name(domain)-if you do that then everybody can find all your personal information, and I didn't go with a paying host-went with the free stuff thru yahoo at geocities. Here's the url

BTW-I will eventually like to host banner(image) on my web page-do I need to create a different page(different name) other then index.htm and then put html code for the banner on that page? Have you heard anything about Mayor or Darkwolf fixing the no email's !!

Oh, this is YOUR website? Didn't understand. I can't host the banner, you will. No, you don't create a page for the banner. You put the banner inside the same page as your Home Page. It will not have it's own page. It's just an image.

Place the banner on your Home Page. Save and then:

Then upload (ftp) the Home Page. Then upload ftp) the image... extragree1animated.....gif.


Then go to your signature at DOD in the Control Panel

Type in this: without any spaces.

That will link to your Home Page and link to the image (I think!)

I realize now, what you were asking me. It wasn't clear to me what your intentions were.

If you want to host JUST the banner... make a new page. Call it whatever.htm (or html). Put the banner on the page. Then ftp that page to the web. That way "whatever.htm" will go straight to the banner.

Toby-We aren't allowed to put web pages in our signature at DOD that have referrals for signing up at different places-only can put them in affiliate/spam.
