| Ford Harley F-150 and Harley Fatboy I just won the Ford / Harley sweepstakes that was recently posted in the Sweeps board here. The grand prize (only prize) that I won is a Harley Davidson Edition Ford F-150 Supercrew with all the extras (Approximate Retail Value just over $36,000) and a matching Harley Davidson Fatboy (Approximate Retail value just under $17,000). The total Approximate Retail Value was between $53,000 and $54,000. And from what I gather, both are rare collectors editions of the vehicles (well, the Fatboy is a rare motorcycle with a long waiting list to buy at list). I'm looking to sell them as a set for $50,000 - and if you want me to deliver them I'd be happy to drive the F-150, with the Fatboy in the back (the F-150 includes a frame specially designed for hauling the Fatboy) to anywhere that's within a day's drive of Cincinnati, Ohio. I would consider selling them individually if a decent offer was made. I figure no one here is likely to be in the market for these kind of vehicles, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to mention. And if anyone did want it, I wanted to give the DOD community the first shot. I wouldn't have won it without DOD. I'm sort of in a rush to sell them though, so I can pay off debts, buy a much less expensive car and use the rest for a down payment on a house. My wife and I want to have another baby, but we can't until we have more living space. This contest is just the miracle we needed to get out of debt and into a house. :-) -Dyllan

Excellent luck! Here's some unasked-for advice from a sweeper who has won a truck and two motorcycles in the past: I noticed you just started posting about this win, so am assuming that you have not yet received the vehicles. Typically, the company running the promotion will arrange for vehicles to be delivered through a local dealer. You might want to start talking to them (company and dealer) about buying the vehicles from you before delivery or arranging some "cash equivalent" payment. Several reasons: 1. When you take delivery -- right then -- you will need to pay the vehicle sales tax on that $54,000. That is a chunk of cash to come up with up front. I had to do that for one motorcycle -- the other two vehicles, the dealer bought them from me without going through delivery process. 2. The promo company will send you what's called a 1099 form ("ten-ninety-nine") which is the tax form that tells both your state and the Feds that you won this prize. The value stated on the 1099 will be full retail value as determined by the promo company. Your 2002 income tax liability will reflect this income (talk to a real tax preparer/expert about this part). Be sure to keep aside enough money to pay your taxes next April. 3. If you take delivery and then sell the items privately, it may be a while before they sell i.e. before you see your money. Perhaps not so long in this case, with these items, but keep in mind that you need a place to park them where they won't be damaged, where prospective sellers can see them... etc. And you need to insure them for the time that you own them and they are being driven (if that's the case) by you or by shoppers. The dealer might offer you 70-75 percent of the retail value (that's based on past experience but again may vary in this case). But balance that against the money you would be out UP FRONT at delivery, and the tax liability for 2002 tax year. Whatever you end up doing, I hope it works out great for you. Congratulations!

Thank you for all of that information. You answered a few questions I was unsure about. Others had suggested answers, but no one was quite sure. I did ask about cash equivalency, and the woman at the contest agency said that was not available. However, the contest agency isn't handling the distribution of the prize, and I haven't talked to the people at Ford who are yet (waiting for a call from them), so it's possible they will do some cash equivalency even though the rules say they won't. Thanks! -Dyllan

Dyllan...a close friend of mine is an avid motorcycle collector/trader. Although I don't think he'd like to purchase these in particular (he's into BMW bikes,) he knows the best sites to sell and trade on, and the best dealers in the country. I sent him a link to your post, and either he'll reply directly or through me. Letcha know, good luck in the meantime.

Congrats on your win! I would love to buy the bike for my husband but can't afford to, maybe I'll win in the next round! Anyway, Harley people are pretty big collectors. I would check out some Harley sites and see if there are any big Harley events coming up (rallys, that sort of thing). Then I would see about advertising at the event, I'm sure both the truck and the bike would sell very quickly. Lemongirl
