WOW At my job I contribute $58.75 bi-weekly for our health insurance for my family of 3. I also contribute $4.50 bi-weekly for our dental insurance. I could not imagine ever paying the amount you have to pay.Jane

| Re: Health Insurance Question I pay just slightly under what Jane does. I think my premium is $54.50 every 2 weeks for myself and my 2 children. It is what they call their "Employee & Children" plan so when the baby is born I can just add him and it won't cost anything more than it already does. $600.00 is WAY too much. you could probably get a private plan for less than that.

Yeah, that sounds way, way too high for an employer sponsored plan. If the employer pays for most of it, you should only be paying like $60-$70 a month for medical and dental, even for a family that size. What's up? That sounds more like you're paying for ALL of the cost ... or someone made a mistake and told you the wrong cost. Make waves!

My dh pays around $275 (bi monthly) a paycheck so that makes is close to yours. It looks like the total cost is $780 a paycheck so we pay less then 1/2 the company covers the rest. I can't tell exactly what he pays so I will check with him. It covers dh, myself and one or more children. In our case there are 5 of us. The last few of years it seems to be going up $50 a paycheck. If it continues I don't know who will be able to afford it. The company pays a large part of it but we still pay a lot for it. Plus co-payments have gone from $5 7 or 8 years ago to $20. I'm glad my children are older and don't go to the Dr. very often. This amount is not just medical but dental and life insurance too. Medical is the parts though that really keeps going up each year.

| Re: Health Insurance Question
I'm a Benefits Administrator so I know all about this stuff. Momof3girls, it just sounds like his employer only pays a small portion of the monthly premiums, leaving the employee to pay the bulk of it. My company pays 80% of the monthly premiums for the employees, but a family plan still runs our employees about $350 from their pay. And that's only 20% they are paying! Heath insurance costs are getting out of hand. Our company pays about $7 million a year in insurance for our 1600 employees. Remember that $650 is probably taken from his check pre-tax, so there really is a huge advantage there. When you take that into consideration, it's probably like he's actually only paying $500 a month for the coverage (which is still a lot, I know!) Anyway, feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions and I'll try to help! |

Wow, after reading this I feel very fortunate. DH's company pays the entire cost of our health insurance. Our plan is a PPO and pay $10 for dr. office visits and $10 for most prescriptions.

| Re: Health Insurance Question
It depends on how it's made and whether the dentist has a lab in his office. If it's too expensive, check to see if there is a dental assisting school near you. Most community colleges have dental assisting programs and if you have a Vatterott near you, depending on the campus, they offer the program too. One thing that assisting students have to do is make night guards. Call and ask if they want any volunteers. They are usually looking for patients and will gladly have you come in. Health Insurance Social Security Health Insurance Employer Plans Health Care Plans and Providers They are usually made in the advanced materials class. |

| Re: Health Insurance Question
Perhaps it's a small company that only pays a small portion towards medical. Last place I worked paid all FULL TIME employess medical & dental IN FULL. Because I was the ONLY PART TIME person (30-32 Hrs wkly) & I had to pay aprox $50.00 total for medical & dental family of 3 coverage which was about 25% & costs of medical are continually rising. I hope you find the best & cheapest plan for your needs, since everyone needs coverage! The very first time I didn't carry insurance from the time I was 18 was when my hubby was determined to have Stage 4 Cancer. So add the "financial worries" to all that - YUK!!!!!!!!!!! |
