I got the job by applying. They're not taking any more applications at this time for researchers. It's in Beta... has been online since May and as Google does things will most likely be in Beta for about a year. It's up and running very successfully. Applying was a 3 step process and I must say wasn't easy! lol First I had to create a small essay saying why I wanted to do it, why I thought I'd be good at it, and most of my credentials.

Then I waited. About a month later I was notified that I had passed the first stage and I was given 25 questions to create answers for 5 questions I decided to research any way I could. Library, phone, online, books, personal knowledge. Everything had to be in researcher style format, no spelling or grammatical errors and the research had to be backed up with how I did it. Links had to be provided, everything was very specific on how to do this. I waited.

Then about a month later I was notified I had passed, and then a few weeks later a contract was mailed to me. I had to sign, etc and then waited some more. I was sent my permissions to actively start answering questions. I get paid 75% of what the asker determines his/her questions is worth. We also get rated from one to five stars if the asker wants to rate us. We are reviewed by the Google editors. Basically it's a lot of fun, but it can be very hard work.

Hi!
People ask questions ranging all over the map. My colleagues and I would pick questions to answer that we felt comfortable taking on. Anything is fair game, except certain TOS's that aren't... like personal info on people, porno stuff, and things that are a bit off or would invade privacy. My colleagues have a Researcher Forum where we congregate similar to DoD. We are in competition with each other of course, but we also maintain a helpful attitude and share information. Everything within our format is not open to the public in the Forum. Because we're sub-contractors we work when we want and don't if we don't want. Nothing is set in stone. We choose to work, we get paid. If not, no pay! lol For ex., I took a month off because I had minor surgery.
