| Iraq alQaeda Connections The Defense Department has declassified documents that show, once again, that al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein had no relationship. So, Vice President Cheney went on Rush Limbaugh's radio show yesterday to remind us all that al-Qaeda was already in Iraq before we got there, plotting against the United States.
The VP said al-Qaeda was operating inside Iraq "before we ever launched" the war, under the direction of "Abu Musab al-Zarqawi." Zarqawi was killed last June.
Why is the administration still lying and inferring a connection? The intelligence estimate really should no longer be open for interpretation. There were no legitimate ties between Saddam, the former Iraqi government, and al Qaeda. Do you remember when Doug Feith leaked his fabricated report to The Weekly Standard that stated Iraq was responsible for 9-11 because some baggage handler/taxi driver in Malaysia had the same sounding name (but not the same spelling) as an Iraqi officer close to Saddam? Do you recall Feith also admitted he countered DIA estimates with his own "conclusions, not based on fact" in order to give the President a balanced view of prewar Iraq? sheeeeesh!
Oh, by the way, in you happen to run into the Vice President, and he doesn't shoot you, please remind him Zarqawi was not a member of al Qaeda "before we ever landed." It is well documented he did not join al Qaeda until 2004.
This whole thing just gives me a headache.
