Re: Official resignation thread

Randall L. Tobias, the deputy secretary of state responsible for U.S. foreign aid, abruptly resigned yesterday after he was asked about an upscale escort service allegedly involved in prostitution, U.S. government sources said.

Tobias resigned after ABC News contacted him with questions about the escort service, the sources said. ABC News released a statement last night saying Tobias acknowledged Thursday that he had used the service to provide massages, not sex.

Tobias has been Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's point man in an ambitious effort to overhaul how the U.S. government manages foreign aid, a key part of her "transformational diplomacy" agenda. Just two days ago, President Bush lauded Tobias for his work in the administration leading "America's monumental effort to confront and deal with the HIV/AIDS epidemic on the continent of Africa."

In an unusual statement issued at 5 p.m., State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Tobias informed Rice "today that he must step down as Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance and U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator effective immediately. He is returning to private life for personal reasons."

Contacted last night at his home in the District, Tobias, a former chief executive of pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly & Co., declined to discuss the circumstances of his resignation, saying he would "stick with the statement the State Department released today."

According to ABC News, Tobias said he contacted the escort service "to have gals come over to the condo to give me a massage" and that there had been "no sex" involved.

"Gals," plural?

Was this in 1999/2000? It is a interesting observation in how many previous supporters of the Administration no longer post/support. Not sure if this is the faith they had/believed has disappeared or if they have reached a different conclusion. I would imagine that even some Libertarians who posted/supported have reached a different feeling in regards to liberty, privacy.

Re: Official resignation thread

It was in 2003/2004, and it was simply horrible! I know a lot of people who left DOD because of it. If you hadn't seen it, you wouldn't believe the stuff that was said. There was one woman who actually said that anyone who disagreed with her extreme religious views was probably in favor of pedophilia and bestiality! She called members here who lived with their fiance's "shack-up honeys" and talked about women jumping with joy because they could kill their unborn babies. People were incredibly nasty, and it really hurt my view of society for a while. However, I finally realized that there are actually lots of kind, tolerant people out there.

I remember a person named "Mayor" who posted a bunch of nonsence about the links between Iraq and Al Qaeda that came from leaks from the White House to the Weekly Standard magazine. The threads he started got nasty in tone, and anyone that disagreed with "Mayor" he would call a " liberal."

Months later, when the legitimate press and the intelligence services debunked the same Weekly Standard reports “Mayor” used, and the debunking was posted here on Mayor’s threads, a moderator who says he is a minister or reverend simply deleted the entire thread. So, for months you would have Mayor’s thread stating Iraq and Al Qaeda were connected, and as soon as the CIA would say these claims were false, Mayor’s claims and the rebuttals were removed. In other words, Mayors false claims stayed up for months until the truth came out, then the truth, as well as Mayor’s false claims, were simply removed from DoD.

It was a hard time back then with all the Republican propaganda; I am glad the world now has had the opportunity to see this administration’s motives in a clearer light.

I don't remember the exact thread in regards to the above-Not sure if you realize or not, but Mayor runs/owns? the site. I do remember the Mod that you speak of-IMO I couldn't figure out sometimes what guidelines were being used when it seemed more liberal voices were getting booted, and it reached the point in which myself(and others) were calling for a better system of checks & balances on Mod's. Im a firm believer in free speech/rules, and sometimes it can be difficult for people to accept different viewpoints, and they want to squash/silence/attack character.

Re: Official resignation thread

The difference between a Republican and a Democrat is "a Democrat will tell you things are worse than they really are, while a Republican will tell you things are better than they really seem." The first is an exaggeration while the latter is a deception.

Yes, the minister's name was "Telos2000." "Mayor," if he owns this site, really did himself and this board a disfavor by being such a sycophant for the Bush administration. His classification of those that deviated with the Bush line as "liberals" really displayed DoD as a hateful, scornful place. If ”Mayor” does own DoD, Mayor, with Telos2000, should not have used their political hard-line stance to ban members who differed with the Bush misinformation-its just bad business practices to alienate so many people!

As we all know, the reports from the WEEKLY STANDARD were planted by the current administration via Douglas Feith, and were conventional propaganda modus operandi. Many saw through it, but when they posted their dissention on Dod, the posts were deleted, and the posters banned.

To summarize, both Mayor and Telos2000 used this board to proliferate this propaganda, and they shamefully removed any posts that disagreed. Mayor and Telos2000 should apologize for what went on here then, and their participation in it.

Will they ban me for pointing out their mistakes?

IMO the dividing of people along labels such as "liberal" "conservative" is counterproductive to a civil debate. Let everyone decipher what they believe to be the facts.

I experienced personal attacks from a Mod that was posted on BB(couple years ago), and later removed when I contacted other Mod's so I do understand the situation you described. I'm sure it is possible if desired that you could be banned or at least warned since someone could interpret your message as a personal attack-even though the information you described might be 100% accurate, and it makes it very difficult to support your case since as you say the post has been removed..if you ever come across similiar situation they have screen capture programs, but let's hope it doesn't reach this level.

Mayor and Telos2000 know how badly they behaved to those that questioned the "facts" leading up to this war, and history and the US Government have proven their "facts" were baseless and simply propaganda. Both Mayor and Telos2000 need to apologize on this board for their past behavior of posting simple propaganda, and abusing their deletion privileges when dissent or official statements contradicted the meat of their what they posted. It was like they were working for the White House ad their mission was to destroy and obfuscate any opposition.

If they bann me we will all know they are up to their old tricks again.

Re: Official resignation thread

Deputy Attorney General Paul J. McNulty announced his resignation yesterday after 18 months on the job, becoming the fourth senior Justice Department official to quit amid the controversy surrounding the dismissal of nine U.S. attorneys last year.

In other news, a World Bank investigating committee sharply rebuked President Paul D. Wolfowitz, concluding that he broke ethics rules and undermined the integrity of the institution in engineering a hefty pay raise for his girlfriend. Is this Paul next to turn in his resignation?

Looks like a little hardball according to this article.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

"He told the board that his handling of the Riza matter "does not justify taking any action against me or warrant a finding that you lack confidence in my leadership"
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Xavier Coll, a former vice-president for human resources, told bank interviewers that Mr Wolfowitz accused him of leaking details of the deal he engineered for Miss Riza.

"And he also stated very clearly that if these people f*** with me or Shaha, I have enough on them to f*** them too. Those were the words," Mr Coll said.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The report said: "Mr Wolfowitz's contract requiring that he adhere to the Code of Conduct for board officials and that he avoid any conflict of interest, real or apparent, were violated."

"The salary increase Miss Riza received at Mr Wolfowitz's direction was in excess of the range established by Rule 6.01," it said.
