Wink Hey, I know! Let's talk about Capital Punishment!

It's too quiet around here, so . . . With the recent Tookie Williams execution (in my beautiful state of CA.), it would be interesting to see how our fellow DOD'ers feel about this.

When the recent study came out that *proved* innocent men and women were being executed, I became strongly anti-capital punishment. However, I feel that neither Tookie Williams or Timothy McVeigh make good poster boys for a protest. I just couldn't seem to rustle up a lot of energy over Tookie this week.

What do you think?

Re: Hey, I know! Let's talk about Capital Punishment!

No doubt a issue in which everyone has deep convictions...both sides have compelling arguements from putting one innocent person to death, and flipside that they were convicted by a jury.

Poll showing More Than Two-Thirds of Americans Continue to Support the Death Penalty:

I came across this graph..which supports the idea that capital punishment is a deterrent.

Re: Hey, I know! Let's talk about Capital Punishment!

It's a really difficult topic. I used to support it with the argument you get what you give, but you can rarely be %100 sure. Nowadays I don't support capital punishment because I don't think it's up to any man (no matter rank or power) to decide on someones life. Governer Arnold is no better than any other of Cali.'s citizens, so why don't we just pluck one off the street and have THEM decide. Plus, I think that death is the easy way out. I know I would much rather death than eternal misery in a little sess pool cell, living with guilt. But I guess to each his own. Oh, and I agree about the McVeigh and Williams cases. Definitely not the best examples or grounds for argument. Okedoke *hops off pedestal/high horse *

I don't usually agree with our Gov. but he did the right thing this time.
