Have Democrats become the Party of Fiscal Conservatives?

Well it does seem funny saying that...maybe they have become that by default since the Republicans have done such a poor job of fiscal restraint.

"The party of Goldwater and Reagan, the one that espoused the benefits of limited government and balanced budgets, has vanished. As Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said last spring, today's Republicans, at a time of national crisis, "have thrown caution to the wind and continue to spend and spend and spend -- all the while cutting taxes."

"The Republican-led Congress is passing pork projects at a rate three times as great as the last time Democrats controlled both houses of Congress, and it is spending at levels not seen since World War II. Add billions of dollars in debt-financed tax cuts to that mix, and you have a recipe for fiscal disaster. Clearly, this is not your father's GOP."

Re: Have Democrats become the Party of Fiscal Conservatives?

I wonder if we keep running these deficits if the Federal Reserve will be forced to keep raising interest rates further then most of the talking heads see. If so this will cause more of a slowdown then what they expect..after all around 80% of the economic expansion was related to the housing markets. How about more tax cuts!

Trade Deficit Spikes To Record:

"So far this year, the trade deficit is running at an annual rate of $718 billion, far surpassing last year's $617.6 billion imbalance. Critics say the soaring deficit is evidence that President Bush's policy of pursuing free trade deals around the world is not working."

"Critics blame the soaring trade deficits for a loss of 3 million manufacturing jobs since mid-2000 and they argue that Bush's push to strike free trade agreements eliminating all trade barriers between the United States and other nations has opened American workers to unfair competition from low-wage countries."

Re: Have Democrats become the Party of Fiscal Conservatives?

I think it is to late...by default the democrats have become the party of fiscal conservatives(man I can't believe it ). Had to chuckle a little at the statement below...Oh maybe it could be that Absolute Power corrupts-good ole fashion greed, pork barrel projects, and less accountability(nah that couldn't be ! ).

I saw this sketch in paper, and had to share it said-
"The corruption in Washington is worse than I thought..I just bought a high-ranking congressman on Ebay"

Republicans Worried About Party Faithful :

"They do love the president, but they have seen a Congress that doesn't seem to function well and they wonder what the heck is going on," said consultant Joe Gaylord, who helped Republicans seize control of the House in 1994 as an adviser to then-Rep. Newt Gingrich, R-Ga.

What a accomplishment every family owes $90,000....it's the gift that keeps on giving

"Durst insists that the clock is non-partisan in its effort to shame the federal government over what he sees as its willingness to gamble away the nation's future.
We're a family business," Durst said. "We think generationally, and we don't want to see the next generation crippled by this burden," he said.
Last week, the "family share" readout on the clock stood some loose change short of 90,000 dollars."

If you get a chance-you might want to look at possible pork projects.

"Consider a $1 million water-free urinal conservation initiative obtained by Rep. Vernon Ehlers, R-Mich., or a $500,000 grant for the Arctic Winter Games in Alaska, slipped into a Pentagon spending bill by GOP Sen. Ted Stevens."

"Earmarks have blossomed under GOP control of Congress. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., advocated the practice to help cement GOP majorities."

Now, core GOP voters are restive over the party's record on spending.
