Question What did the Pope mean to non-Catholics

Even though I'm not Catholic, I respected the Pope. From what I heard, he stood against Communism and helped revitalize the Church. Even as he himself was ailing, he defended Terri Schindler (Schiavo).
Does anybody, Catholic or not, have any further insights or explanations? Thanks.

I am not Catholic, but I respect him, and what he stands for people who are Catholic.

I am not Catholic but I have tremendous respect for the Pope. He is a man who has truly dedicated himself to all people of the world. Even in his sickest frailest days he has at least tried to visit his followers.

well, I have read more and talked to more people. It seems many people were touched by this Pope. He healed wounds with the Jewish community (believe it or not he was the first Pope in 2000 years to visit Rome's Synagogue!), he always kissed the ground when he landed in a new country (to show respect for all cultures), and leaders of all faiths and nations are praising his role in uniting people.
He will indeed be missed

I watched a special regarding the Pope. You will see that he had a good perspective of the working man about his times with coal miners. To the acting & mimics that he did as a young man..to the times he was becoming a priest in WWII during Nazi occupation-(underground). His support of Polish Solidarity...to meeting various world leaders such as castro, bush, and his lecturing(talking) to them about the need for Human Rights support.
