What the H**L is going on with DOD?

Spam is everywhere. Mods are nowhere. Mayor is nowhere. Is this the way it's going to end? In case you didn't notice, people are complaining and people are leaving.

What spam? Are you talking about popups? Nonags.com provides links to all sorts of quality freebie software if you are not up to installing a firewall on your puter.

Otherwise, please elaborate.

I totally agree with you luv...I come in here and that is what I do most of the time, removing the spam. It gets real old and I do my best, but please remember the mods can't be here 24/7.

Also, if you do see something that needs moved, PM me, I am on here checking quite frequently. I also check while I am at work and I remove alot during my workday as well.

You can ban users and delete posts all you want it just doesn't keep the spammers away. Most of them are only here for a one time post so posting on their thread is pretty much a waste of time. Chances are they aren't coming back to read the comments.

I think this is just a new reality. Spammers weren't nearly as big a few years. The mods don't get paid so I don't mind it either.

Frankly I just don't think there are nearly as many good deals out there with the economy slowed down....I mean I haven't seen any free movie ticket offers in a while. They used to have them every couple of weeks!!

Crazy... I have seen spam posts remain on the boards for days... even after reporting them to the mods. I would really like to know who are the mods that actually are working? If you are a mod, BE ONE!

I am quite present, Luv. And the boards are getting more traffic than they have in two years. The sad reality is that there ARE more board spammers than ever before. We are also seeing it on our blogs and having to turn off comments in order to deny their spam. However, I believe we can recruit a couple new moderators if needed.

Spam posts are from people that are posting links for their own monetary gain. Rubs me the wrong way, ya know?

Spam in terms of boards would be posts that are not following the rules for each topic(board).
I've noticed the biggest problem on the affiliate/spam board in which the posters don't put the name of program in subject, and of course the usual folks that register then spam the boards, and leave.

What is the best way of reporting spam? I've just always put it in the Ask Mod Question area.

Would a 5 day waiting period to post help to reduce the spam? Sort of like a gun-law

You would still be able to read posts.

I'm no longer a "regular" here but do lurk periodically. As far as I see it, if anyone cares..

I was, at one time, a moderator here as was Luv. So, a subtle reminder to her because it seems as though your memory of those days has become clouded..

Mods can't be here 24/7 and Joel can't be either. They do what they can with the time available to them. Perhaps they need a couple more volunteers - but that isn't for us to say.

When I see the crap posted that you call spam.. I simply ignore it. Or, once in awhile I look at it because it can be so stupid that it makes me laugh.

Take the bad with the good, Luv. Don't stress so much over the boards.. they are a means of escaping the "real" world and should be a pleasurable experience.

Here's another perspective for Miss Luv.

If the spam bothers you so much, WHY DID YOU QUIT BEING A MODERATOR?!?!

If your sole purpose of complaining about "all of the spam" (ie., OMG THE SKY IS FALLING)is to suggest that the moderators who are here do not do their job, then you are wrong. I respond to every single "reported post" that comes to my email box. Most of the time, one of the other mods (mainly JenniferM) have already caught it, if not, I move it. I also have received many pms from members (thanks guys *wink*)about your rude and disgusting behavior in the Found a Freebie forum. Alot of times, the spam posts in many of the forums are double, triple, quadruple posts that have already been moved a few times and they've come back and reposted before they were banned or after I've already gone off the board for the day/night (you know, because of oh I dunno crazy things like MY CHILDREN, HOUSEWORK, COOKING DINNER, WORK, SPENDING TIME WITH MY HUSBAND, you know silly pointless stuff like that *roll eyes*).

I really don't believe your questioning of all of the spam posts is out of genuine concern for DOD. I honestly believe it's just one more thing for you to gripe about and assume that DOD is going to implode upon itself *roll eyes*

If you didn't like what was going on with the site or how it was being run, you shouldn't have quit being a moderator. It's not your job anymore. Don't worry about it.
