I agree, and why is the government even getting involved in this?

I have to disagree. There are basically no "good" deals on this site anymore. When I go to the deal board, I just see spam posts (which I always report). What I am trying to say is that DOD no longer has a reputation of being a "good deal site." They have the rep of being a conservative born-again christian site.

Luv, I have a question for you. I want to preface it by saying I really enjoy your posts, and your personality here at DOD. When I read responses like that I do wonder what the reasons are that the people behind the posts decide to stay at DoD.

I have been here since late 2000, early 2001. All I have ever heard, for years and years now, is that "its not the same". Complaints first started about "these" people who are ruining the boards, or "those" people who are running the boards, then when those people were banned, others were upset about something else. I don't know how long this board was considered "good" but it must have been for a very brief amount of time which just seems longer with nostalgia. Maybe the nostalgia is covering all the sourness and bitter "it will never be the same" complaints that I have seen since I first started lurking here almost 4 years ago.

so, while I like your company, and enjoy reading everyone's posts, what is the hope or intention behind more negative posts?

I really don't have any intention or hope behind it. Just stating what I believe. I think this site is dying a slow death. There is no balance anymore.

Re: All non-conservatives, check in here

I can see what you are saying. Can you see what I am saying? 3 years of people saying "this site is dying". Don't you think that makes people feel unwanted? I know when I first started posting back in 2001 I almost left because everyone said this site was going down the tube and all the "good people" were leaving. Do you know how that came acrossed? It can come across like the new people weren't (and aren't) worth beans, which doesn't feel very welcoming.

As far as coupon deals go, this site is about par with everywhere else I go to. It usually always gets the "big deals" that other coupon sites post. The problem is that there aren't very many big deals anymore, so now coupon sites stay open more in the forum area, or their area of specialty deals (computers, electronics, etc.)

The chit-chat in general topic is waaaaay slower since the first year and a half it opened. I have gone through spurts trying to kick start it like everyone else, for years. I think it's slow times have been like this for at least 3 years, peppered with busier times. But for some reason this is the only site I know that seems to have a dividing line, between the "old good" times, and the present times. This site was fun when it was new. But its not new now, and it's been this way for a long time. Why complain about it any longer?

Tami,

I'm not sure I understand what you are implying or otherwise accusing me of. The only people I have ever banned from this site were those who abused the site or other members. Everyone has been welcome here and I have allowed plenty of dissenting speech, even though I disagree with what some people say.

I'm trying to follow the logic on your final statement, but you lost me somewhere. What does the political standing of a volunteer have to do with anything?

Balance? What are you wanting to balance? You are here with your political views. Anyone can post their views here. Do we need to mandate that there be a certain quota of people with varying views? Sounds like affirmative action to me!

Look, You are free to leave whenever you want, Luv. No one is making you stay against your will. This forum is the ONLY place where we discuss these issues. While I occasionally post a conservative DVD or book on the site, they make up a fraction of a percent of the offers that we make available. It appears to me that you are attracted to DoD like a moth to the flame. If you are so troubled and feel the need to complain, why do you stay?

And for the record, DealofDay is getting plenty of traffic. Apparantly, a good number of people are finding what they are looking for here.

Mayor

Pssst... I'm working on a new feature that LOTS of people are going to like. And I don't know of any other deal site that has what we are going to have. Stay tuned...

Re: All non-conservatives, check in here

I don't see this site as "dying." What I see is a group of people who resent certain other groups (Christians in particular) because, I gather, they have divergent views.

It is typical for any given message board to carry the flavor or influence of those who run it.

Have you checked out Simple Living's site yet, luv? It is run by liberals and I am here to say that one can surely tell. Conservatives have it rather tough over there, and lately (according to a few posts I have seen in there) have been departing that site.

You have to register in order to participate, of course.

Luv, I just checked it out and it looks like a site you would enjoy with lots of Liberal viewpoints. I just registered myself so I can put in a few Conservative ideas once in a while. I look forward to being harassed there like you seem to feel you are being tortured here. But I just wonder, why post on the Politics/Religion thread if you think it is so full of Conservative thought that you no longer enjoy it here in this forum?

Re: All non-conservatives, check in here

Here I am. Once again, I will state for the record, I am a registered Independent, not a registered Democrat, but I was raised by very liberal parents.

Personally, I see liberals take a beating here, sure, but mainly because some of them (not all) who post get too flustered to get what they want to say out. Others get so angry it comes off as jibberish which of course the conservatives eat up because they can point and laugh and say ah ha look at the "crazy liberals" getting all bent out of shape, see they're wrong we're right cuz they are just crazy kooky crazy. *roll eyes* I've seen it happen, many times. Of course, I've seen the same behavior from the other side of the fence as well but more often from the conservatives.

And then of course there's the great sources scramble which I love because then I actually LEARN something from everything folks post. Instead of hearing so-and-so's opinion about this and so-and-so's opinion about that, there are actually facts laid out on the table and I can see for myself which are true. And, it's always comical to see the ones who still refute the truth when it's right before their eyes, conservatives and liberals both.

I don't really like to post much in this forum but I do read it. OH yes, I do read it. It's quite interesting.

I've often wondered myself why Luv still comes here as much as she talks smack about DOD and always has...because you know...she and what people say on this website are so important in the grand scheme of things but I don't like to speak for other people. I still come here because I like it here, I enjoy the discussions, I always have whether they are with old members or new members I think things would be pretty boring if everyone agreed with everyone on everything all the time...I'm not a robot, and I don't believe anyone else here is either *shrug* I say what I feel, what I believe and if it doesn't coincide with everyone else's (including Mayor's) viewpoints, OH WELL. They are MY opinions and MY beliefs, and I am entitled to them just like everyone else here is entitled to theirs. Just because other folks wanna spout theirs off every 5 seconds doesn't mean I have to and it doesn't mean they're going to change my mind. And that's that.

So, anyway, enough of my rambling, yes I lean a bit more to the left, I am an atheist, and I don't like to shove my opinions down other people's throats and I don't like it when others try to shove their opinions down my throat and tell me I should accept it as fact. I don't say much in this forum but I do read it and I do think it was a good idea to start it as GCC was getting clogged up with these discussions and obviously folks wanted to have these discussions. So, carry on. If I have something to say, I'll let ya know, lol

And that's why we love ya, Steph.

What many people don't realize is that I have an extremely high degree of tolerance, even allowing liberals as (gasp!) moderators. I don't delete or move posts that I disagree with unless they break TOS. I think I have a "big tent" at DoD, and the things that bring us together are more important than the things that divide us.

Whether people want to join the R&P forum is up to them. The MAJORITY do NOT read or post in this forum. Most people find our site for a freebie, a deal, a coupon, or some other scattered topic that may have come up in General Chit Chat.

One poster lamented that "there aren't any good deals" anymore. Well gee whiz. Get off your duff and post a good deal instead of griping about it! We post 15-20 deals on the main page EVERY DAY. Some are great, some are average. YOU try finding that many great deals every day!

But the forums are not the place for ME to post deals. This is all about YOU, the members! You drive the forums. I am mostly a passenger. So if you want DoD to kick butt in regard to deals, post 'em like crazy. In fact, maybe it's time we had a deal-posting contest. I believe I have some Tupperware gift certificates burning a hole in my inbox. :-)

Very well said Steph I read this forum all the time but don't post very often. I have asked questions a couple of times trying to learn more about politics but no one every answered them. I guess they thought I was being a smart aleck but they were real questions. I guess I could have looked up the answers for my self.
