Re: Hispanic vote key to Bush win

well, now they got a 2nd Cabinet post from Bush.Good for them. Now the only group left for the Democrats is African-Americans and Single Women, now that the Latinos have wandered off the liberal plantation

The link is gone, but the Bush take was around 40% of the Hispanic vote. Initial Election Day exit polls did show Bush receiving 44 percent of the Hispanic vote and Senator John Kerry receiving 53 percent. But, as Scripps Howard News Service reported December 2: "Revised figures show Bush received 40 percent of the Hispanic vote, not 44 percent." The William C. Velásquez Institute (WCVI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and policy think tank focusing on Latino issues, noted in a December 3 press release that the revisions "increas[ed] challenger John Kerry's support among Hispanics to 58 percent from 53 percent."

A 4% difference doesn't really change the point which is Hispanics voted for Bush in much greater numbers than anyone anticipated. The African-American voting percent for Bush also doubled since 2000.
That is something Dems should be looking at; their long-held 'bases' of voters are tired of being taken for granted and tired of seeing their party pandering to the extreme left- at least that's what it looks like to me based on these numbers, and from several interviews I've watched.

Where did you get this??? 8-9 % in 2000, exit polling showed him up to 11% in 2004. Even with the margins of error in these polls, nowhere near "double".

And by way of comparison, the Hispanic vote for Bush in 2000 was 35%.

I apologize, I got this from all the PRE-election predictions. Like this one...

But a recent poll by the Joint Center on Political and Economic Studies, a firm that researches black issues, found that 18 percent of black adults may vote for Bush, twice the 9 percent of black voters he got in 2000
I heard that so much on the radio, t.v.. etc. I think it warped into the POST-election results in my mind.
PLUS, it really was doubled in Ohio- which was a key state:
Quote:
In Ohio, according to exit polls conducted by the National Election Pool, Bush won 16 percent of the black vote, up from 9 percent in 2000.

See, this is why it is a good thing to have all sides represented; so they can catch others messing up

However, he did increase his support among blacks AND hispanics- that's the moral of this story.

Re: Hispanic vote key to Bush win

unfortunately, the original link expired. It was Dick Morris's views of the Hispanic(Latino) vote being key. He's the guy who helped Bill Clinton win the governorship and presidency. He knows the politics game and how its played.
The Hispanics flipped the script on the Dems. Even African-Americans voted more GOP in states with gay-marriage initiatives (overall, though, Bush only gained a meager 2% nationwide among that group from most sources I've seen.)
Contrary to media portrayals, not all "minorities" think they need to be "helped" by government largesse. As they move up the ladder, from entry level jobs, to homeowners and entrepreneurs, many immigrants become more Republican.
