How does your school lean? The one here is sooooooo left it isn't even funny

The required freshman books are right up there with Michael Moore's drivel (heck, they'll probably require THAT next year). Now they have a requirement that all incoming freshmen MUST live on campus- period! They say it is important that the students have the 'immersion' experience in order to fully appreciate university culture

I say it is part of the cradle to grave brainwashing philosophy.

At UNL (Nebraska Lincoln) our newspaper is VERY liberal. They do have a few Conservative columnists, but many articles and editorials are cleary left-leaning.

As far as classes, I haven't experienced anything too crazy. My history teacher is really fair and always looks at both sides of the equation.

But my dad told me he received an email from a parent of another student and apparently a lot of the books some students are required to read for English have been really innapropriate! Thankfully I don't have to take English here which is a relief as my credits transferred.

I would just love to see an English class read a GOOD BOOK like Michael Crichton! To me that is a classic and many of themes found in his books can relate to our current society!

The student senate was considering bringing Michael Moore, but that caved in when the Regents decided it would be too partisan.

It is. The fact is that young minds are rebellious and anti-establishment by nature. The wacko liberal professors help to fuel the fire and conservatives are frequently shunned. But the numbers of young people awakening to the lies of the liberal leadership is growing, as evidenced by the disgust of Rock for Change and MTV's biased Rock the Vote campaign.

These kids are the future of our country. Thankfully, some are wise enough to see through the lies. Unfortunately, there are too many adults in our country that still don't get it.

I was encouraged to see the creation of the "Redeem the Vote" campaign- a Christian response to "Rock the Vote".

Also, my daughter pointed out yesterday when we drove past the college that one of the largest fraternity houses on campus has "Bush/Cheney" signs plastered all over the place

p.s. You are so right about conservatives being shunned by the liberal professors... in many cases it is more like HUMILIATED.
Two examples:

1. A psych professor was talking about how homosexuals cannot help themselves and an 18 yr old boy very calmly was trying to respond that he believed it was a CHOICE. Well, good ol' prof. proceeded to mock him as a mama's boy and told him he was in the REAL world now and couldn't go around believing everything his mama told him.
He just went on and on, egging this kid; it was disgusting.

2. An honor's seminar I was in was discussing abortion. The one girl that had the guts to stand up and say she believed it was wrong and that she had once marched in front of a clinic trying to talk girls out of it- the professor told her in no uncertain terms that there was a special place in **** for people like her!

This kind of thing completely freaks me out. My daughter will be going off to college in 5 or 6 years and I've already been thinking about this. I want her to go to a school where she can be exposed to different ideas, but not one where a socialist, liberal agenda is crammed down her throat.

If it is truly a "choice" why would he choose that? To be ridiculed? To be told he was an "abomination?" Sorry, not buying that.

definitely think it is a choice. Just because someone has a disposition does not mean it's ok to act on it. If there is physically something wrong with them why not try to fix it with gender correct hormones. I think more likely it is a mental issue that counciling can (and does) heal.

They have done studies that show that women who are sexually abused are more likely to be gay. Does not sound like they were born that way to me.

Those are good points, Mayfly, I agree.

Luv, people experience ridicule all the time, for a VARIETY of reasons. As for being called an abomination- there is obviously a large segment of the population that writes off anything Christians say; why would they care so much?
