Former Swift Boat Commander Backs Kerry on Vietnam

http://news.myway.com/top/article/id/381249|top|08-21-2004::15:47|reuters.html

"There were three swift boats on the river that day in Vietnam more than 35 years ago -- three officers and 15 crew members. Only two of those officers remain to talk about what happened on February 28, 1969," he wrote in a story on the newspaper's Web site.

"One is John Kerry ... who won a Silver Star for what happened on that date. I am the other."

This has got to stop.. it is pathetic that Kerry has to continue to defend his own actions that he got medals for. Even if he didn't appreciate them, he still was awarded them from some higher up military person, right?

Actually I think it's a good move for both. The republicans need to discredit Kerry in regards to Foreign Policy etc., and the democrats are smart to make this a issue in Aug./Sept. that way folks will become tired of hearing about it come Oct./Nov., and they can talk about issues in which they feel they have better support if you look at polling data like the economy, health care, deficits, future. The biggest thing that I've heard in regards to negatives that have stuck are the Cambodia Kerry & the percentage of meetings both public & non-public that kerry did not attend in regards to intelligence meetings.

Re: Former Swift Boat Commander Backs Kerry on Vietnam

OMG, I have to say that this whole ridiculous controversy has made me totally skeptical of the entire process for awarding medals in the military. John Kerry can get 3 purple hearts, a silver star, and I forget what else, and they are all bogus? He wrote his own reasons for getting them? So is that how it is for all the vets with medals? Or is it just Kerry??

The Medals don't seem to be as much of a issue-after all the information that has come out-except for those that feel he didn't get wounded enough in order to earn the medals
I place more value on the opinions of the men that served on the same boat, but that is something that everyone needs to decide for themselves.
