Chatter box Jobs Report-We've turned the corner-A Hiring Shock

Looks like those tax cuts have worked thru the system.

IMO the tax cuts should of been configured differently to also work with spending cuts.
The U.S. economy needs 125k + each month just to absorb workforce growth-this doesn't even include underemployed etc. Plus some of those earlier month-had added back workers from the grocery strike.

Re: Jobs Report-We've turned the corner-A Hiring Shock

This doesn't surprise me. I live out in the country and tried looking for a job for the summer, no luck.

Now I am looking for a job when I go to school in a larger city in August, but just got my first rejection...I was really counting on the job too .

I think it's really difficult for young people to try and get jobs, I don't know why, it just seems a lot harder than it used to be.

My husband works for a large well-established landscaping company on the Main Line in Philadelphia. They just announced they would be laying off people for the first time ever. Consumer spending is way down.

No doubt this is a important issue. Not just the job issue, but also the quality of jobs..

Re: Jobs Report-We've turned the corner-A Hiring Shock

Greg Mankiw, chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said the administration wants to see stronger jobs growth.

"We are not satisfied with the level of job creation we saw today," he said.

"The economy is creating jobs. It is moving forward but not at a rapid enough pace."

I'd say

Exclamation Re: Jobs Report-We've turned the corner-A Hiring Shock

The problems caused by shipping all our jobs overseas will not be solved easily by the Democrats or the Republicans. It looks to me like we are becoming a service economy with generally lower paying jobs. The present administration has continued to allow our job loss to overseas sites that started in the 90's. I highly doubt Kerry can or will do anything to reverse it.

Re: Jobs Report-We've turned the corner-A Hiring Shock

That seems like a pretty good idea. When it comes down to it, it's all about money.

I just wonder if it's enough?

For example, they can pay someone in India at a call center about $3000-$5000 a year where as in the United States the amount would be 4 or 5 times more! I wonder if payroll is as just as much a reason for going overseas as tax reasons...I don't really know much about that though.

Fed was in a tough spot-they didn't want to say that the slowdown would continue, but wanted to act against inflation. Usually you raise rates to slow the economy down.

Thanks for the article! That's pretty much how I am feeling. I don't like Kerry, but my opinion of Bush has really lessened.

I have had the hardest time finding jobs and this war, which I was for at the beginning, took so much longer and was much more expensive than I expected it to be.

Not to mention the fact that my Federal Pell Grant decreased $3000 this year, yet my parents income was basically unchanged.

Now this isn't to say Kerry's college plan has me jumping for joy - as if I am going to stop going to school and do two years of service to get it paid for...frankly, time is money. Now maybe if I were just starting I would consider it, but not now when I am well into my education.
