Is anyone interested?

Does anyone want to step up and be the 'better person' by not resorting to name calling or sarcasm when responding to other peoples posts?

Is everyone so intent on being right that you'll try and prove your point no matter who gets stepped on?

Will everyone here defend everything their candidate does just because you don't want to seem weak by backing down?

Is there anyone here that wants to seriously discuss issues or is everyone just a drone for your political party?

Can everyone admit that Bush has done some good things and has done some bad things? Can everyone admit that Kerry has done some good things and some bad things?

When is everyone going to start being the people they expect everyone else but themselves to be?

And what is the name of this perfect world you think could exist?

(Not a dig at you - I just think when it comes to politics, this is asking way too much).

So you're giving up before even trying?

Re: Is anyone interested?

Ok, what did I miss? I haven't seen any name calling, and to be honest I think that once people decide who they want to vote for thats it.

I said in another thread it will be nice when the election is over. This is what I am seeing on all the forums I visit, lots of hair raised political comments.

I think the one reason why it is bad to make too many of those types of comments is that it tends to make the other side more defensive, thus blinder to what is being shared.

Twonky, I appreciate your idealism- honestly.
However, I find myself in constant defense of Bush because of the constant attack he is under. Attack mode automatically puts the other side on the defensive.

Re: Is anyone interested?

As someone who has spent the last 6 years discussing politics and current events on the internet, I am here to tell you, twonky, that this message board is among the best places I have ever visited.

Generally, people conduct themselves as adults in here. Surely, there are displays of passion and irritation. But I think that is to be expected.

Perhaps it would be nice if you elaborated a bit on just what it is you are trying to accomplish here.

Well I hope everyone is a little more open minded. Sure you can support whatever candidate you want, but I agree with Twonky that surely most people have issues with all candidates.

Re: Is anyone interested?

Why would we be more open minded? We have researched who we wanted, and decided for ourselves? We are the ones to be commended, for caring enough to research which candidate best reflects our beliefs and desires for this country. That makes no sense to me. What worries me are not the people who have done research and made a decision, but the ones who don't care and just vote for whomever.

No . . . I do try to do all of the above. I'm hardly one of the more hard-headed people in this forum.

I agree that we all should research for ourselves. Just that it is ok to point out a negative every so often instead of only hearing the positives.

Re: Is anyone interested?

I think what it comes down to is that for some people it's probably just easier to take pot shots at the candidate they don't like (and their wife), then it is to actually explain why they like a certain candidate. Of course, attacking candidates is always more fun than discussing real issues.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't give a crap if Bush OR Kerry served in Vietnam or anywhere for that matter. What I care about is their view on issues NOW and how they plan to improve and help the country. But I realize that many people on this board don't seem to care about that. Oh well.
