Rolling eyes Ted Kennedy- darling of the Dems

I got this today and it is so dang true...
I'll bet lots of people on this board don't remember all this:

Subject: Fw: Mary Jo Kopechne

Hello, My name is Mary Jo Kopechne.

I would have been 65 years of age this year. Read about me and my killer below. When Sen. Ted Kennedy was merely just another Democrat bloating on Capitol Hill on behalf of liberal causes, it was perhaps excusable to ignore his deplorable past. But now that he's become Sen. John Kerry's leading campaign attack dog, positioning himself as Washington's leading arbiter of truth and integrity, the days for such indulgence are now over.

It's time for the GOP to stand up and remind America why Sen. Kerry's chief spokesman had to abandon his own presidential bid in 1980 - time to say the words Mary Jo Kopechne out loud.

As is often the case, Republicans have deluded themselves into thinking that most Americans already know the story of how this "Conscience of the Democratic Party" left Miss Kopechne behind to die in the waters underneath the Edgartown Bridge in July 1969, after a night of drinking and partying with the young blonde campaign worker.

But most Americans under 40 have never heard that story, or details of how Kennedy swam to safety, then tried to get his cousin Joe Garghan, to say he was behind the wheel.

Those young voters don't know how Miss Kopechne, trapped inside Kennedy's Oldsmobile, gasped for air until she finally died, while the Democrats' leading Iraq war critic rushed back to his compound to formulate the best alibi he could think of.

Neither does Generation X know how Kennedy was thrown out of Harvard on his ear 15 years earlier -- for paying a fellow student to take his Spanish final. Or why the US Army denied him a commission because he cheated on tests.

As they listen to the Democrats' "Liberal Lion" accuse President Bush of "telling lie after lie after lie" to get America to go to war in Iraq, young voters don't know about that notorious 1991 Easter weekend in Palm Beach, when Uncle Teddy rounded up his nephews for a night on the town, an evening that ended with one of them credibly accused of rape.

It's time for Republicans to state unabashedly that they will no longer "go along with the gag" when it comes to Uncle Ted's rants about deception and moral turpitude inside the Bush White House.

The Democratic Party, not to mention Sen. John Kerry, should be ashamed to have the national disgrace from Massachusetts as their spokesman. And the GOP needs to say so out loud.

Is that the best you've got?!
Really, the comparison is shameless.

Well..., I did think about bringing up Laura Bush (née Welch) killing a man, but I figured that was too "on the nose" to be funny.

I still don't get your comparisons. They are not fair comparisons in any way, shape or form.

BESIDES, the REAL QUESTION is:

Why is it that liberals can never just respond with a defense of their beloved people? I rarely see a true defense of whatever was posted- the strategy seems to be ... Hurry up and deflect this to someone Republican (no matter how far I have to reach).

That is akin to the playground strategy of, "So what if I'm a booger-head, I think this other person on the slide is a worse one."

If it weren't so dang consistent out of this camp, it wouldn't be so insulting.

Yeah, and everytime a liberal does a crackdown on Bush, conservatives divert Clinton. Mention a racist Republican, then we all get hear about Robert Byrd..., again. Both sides play the same game.

And what's the point of attacking Ted Kennedy? Because he's "Sen. Kerry's chief spokesman." He's not, really, but let's not let that stand in the way of saying it. And he said a little bit more about GW than "telling lie after lie after lie" but instead of responding to that, the Bushiites bring up ancient Kennedy family history. BTW, you forgot to mention that the Kennedy family fortune is based on bootlegging during prohibition, with the obvious connections to the Mafia. And that the Kennedys have been accused of having Marilyn Monroe murdered.

Why don't conservatives just respond to what Kennedy actually said? Or at least try to focus their smear campaign on John Kerry, instead of the scattershot attacks to anyone who can be associated with him???

I am just sick about this, never heard it. I did some research and found out if he had even went to get help she would have lived. It took two hours for her to die.

This isn't a scattershot attack... the point is that the Democrat party is coming unglued.

The looney liberals are coming out of the woodwork; and at the same time, Kerry starts making himself out to be this moderate. It is like something off of the SciFi channel.

When people like Ted Kennedy get their big mouths heard above all others- that is a problem. Especially when he has the gall to talk about someone else's MORAL aptitude for crying out loud!

Re: Ted Kennedy- darling of the Dems

It blows my mind how Nixon forever lost all credibility, and was the butt of jokes for the rest of his life, and here is something so much worse, Ted was even married, and this was another women he was alone with, whom he LEFT to die, and no one breathes a word. I can't understand how anyone would have even an ounce of respect left for this man.

It's scattershot. If your point is that the whole party is coming unglued, and your example is one guy, and it's not even one of the most prominent guys (among Democrats) at the moment..., unless you're just listening to the conservative spin... That's scattershot.

Okay, so the convention was four days long. Networks only covered three hours of it, and I'm not even sure (because I watched it on C-SPAN, without the useless commentary from various "talking heads") if Kennedy got a choice timeslot.

Sharpton didn't get a choice timeslot either..., so he basically stole one. And he's the one who most..., "enthusiastically" attacked Bush. Ted Kennedy didn't get people on their feet cheering. The Reverend did. And if you want to show how "loony" the Party has gotten, Sharpton has gone out his way, for decades, to be a charicature. Only you'd have a harder time associating him with John Kerry. Which is why he's simply dismissed, and Ted Kennedy becomes the target.

On the other hand: Obama. Spoke to more people within the party than Kennedy did. Got the same response as Sharpton. Not a "loon". Not easy to associate with John Kerry. Not example of a party coming unglued. So..., right back to Kennedy.

The former president noted the irony.

"It is a well-known political fact of life, particularly here in Texas, that when you want to fire up a Republican crowd -- and give them a little 'red meat' -- nothing works quite like jumping on Ted Kennedy," Bush said.

There is a book about it by Joyce Carol Oates called Black Water. Supposed to be a work of fiction but....

It's a hard read. I found myself not able to breathe.
