Question Democratic speakers mentioning civil rights movement

Al Sharpton and others are portraying the civil rights movement as done by the Democrat party. They are conveniently ignoring the fact that all the racist whites were Democrats (Wallace, Maddox, Helms, Thurmond, etc.). Lincoln freed the slaves, and President Eisenhower sent armed troops to force the Southern racist white Democrats to accept black kids in the schools.
Let me emphasize, the CURRENT GOP deserves none of the credit for the actions of people like Jacob Javitz, Everett Dirksen, and other Norhtern Republicans that stood up for civil rights. But, it reflects the poor historical knowledge in the US that the Democrats can portray themselves as the sole party of civil rights and get away with it.
