Let the picture and story do the talking. --------------------- Scans uncover secrets of the womb Baby 'walking' in the womb A new type of ultrasound scan has produced the vivid pictures of a 12 week-old foetus "walking" in the womb. The new images also show foetuses apparently yawning and rubbing its eyes. The scans, pioneered by Professor Stuart Campbell at London's Create Health Clinic, are much more detailed than conventional ultrasound. Professor Campbell has previously released images of unborn babies appearing to smile. He has compiled a book of the images called Watch Me Grow. ![]() Conventional ultrasound, usually offered to mothers at 12 and 20 weeks, produces 2D images of the developing foetus. These are very useful for helping doctors to measure and assess the growth of the foetus, but convey very little information about behaviour. Professor Campbell has perfected a technique which not only produces detailed 3D images, but records foetal movement in real time. He says his work has been able to show for the first time that the unborn baby engages in complex behaviour from an early stage of its development. Professor Campbell told the BBC: "This is a new science for understanding and mapping out the behaviour of the baby. "Maybe in the future it will help us understand and diagnose genetic disease, maybe even conditions like cerebral palsy which puzzles the medical profession as to why it occurs." The images have shown: ![]() From 12 weeks, unborn babies can stretch, kick and leap around the womb - well before the mother can feel movement From 18 weeks, they can open their eyes although most doctors thought eyelids were fused until 26 weeks From 26 weeks, they appear to exhibit a whole range of typical baby behaviour and moods, including scratching, smiling, crying, hiccoughing, and sucking. Until recently it was thought that smiling did not start until six weeks after birth. An hour long session using the new technology, which is not yet available on the NHS, costs £275. Wow, it's quiet here. Too quiet. I would like to point out that the liberals on this thread (or the LACK of them responding) proves my point. No one has anything to say. The obvious truth has a way of silencing the opposition. And this was merely a couple photographs. Imagine if wombs really DID have windows. Suddenly, its not a political argument anymore. It isn't about pro-choice, anti-abortion, whatever. It's, "wow, look at that little baby inside his/her mommy! You want to do WHAT to it?" Science is catching up with common sense. It's not too late to switch sides, folks. Mayor

Reminds me of the book "A Child Is Born." Awesome pictures of developing fetuses in the womb. As I have stated before, I am not pro-abortion, just pro-choice. And I don't approve of abortions after the 1st trimester. |

| Re: Window to the Womb
several of those pictures are taking of first trimester babies. They suck their thumbs, kick their legs. The baby yawning is first trimester.

Still ok with it? And if so, does that mean what you find acceptable on Day 90 no longer becomes acceptable on Day 91? What a difference a day makes! Mayor

You know, until the pro-choice crowd can actually face the statement to the effect that elective abortion is the case of killing one's baby and be able to say it, they are simply dabbling in intellectual dishonesty. (Seldom do I make this statement without raising hackles.....can't imagine why).

I agree, people who are pro-choice need to suck it up and say "yes its ok for people to have the choice to kill a person in utero". All this dilly dallying and word play is silly. If thats what they believe, they should stand up for it!

Do you ever wonder though....if the shoe were on the other foot...if you were the teen pregnant...if you were raped and pregnant....just curious if anyone would "ever" change their stand??

If men were the ones who got pregnant, this wouldn't even be an issue. In a perfect world, all babies would be wanted, with a drug-free, alcohol-free, cigarette-free mother, and a father waiting to support them. Never gonna happen. And if you take the option of abortion away, you are going to have MORE botched abortions, and mothers not caring what happens to their growing baby in their belly. How about the 12 year old that is raped by her father? No option to have an abortion? How about the mentally challenged teen that is taken advantage of by the kid next door? No option to have an abortion? How about the crack addict that will never stop using during her pregnancy? No option to have an abortion? I could go on and on.... |

I have said before and will say again.......everyone should have ultimate dominion over his/her own body. Likewise though, be honest enough not to dance around the issue.....killing your baby is killing your baby. If you see a good enough reason to do it, then by all means, let not another stand in your way. Can you swallow that?

LOL! You still dance around it by inferring that a life never started. Not the case. It is killing.....k-i-l-l-i-n-g...as in the baby dies....by your hand. Stopping short of admitting this is just not intellectually honest.
