Moore thinks you are STUPID...

Quote:
Americans currently flocking to see Michael Moore's movie "Farenheit 9/11" might be surprised to learn how little respect the Democratic Party's leading propaganda-meister has for them.
''They are possibly the dumbest people on the planet," Moore told Britain's Mirror newspaper recently, referring to his fellow citizens as a whole. And that's not all Moore had to say about his brother Yanks across the pond. ''We Americans suffer from an enforced ignorance. We don't know about anything that's happening outside our country. Our stupidity is embarrassing.''

Turns out, when the Democratic Party's all-but-official filmmaker is speaking at home, he has nice things to say about at least some of his fellow citizens. But according to New York Times columnist David Brooks, when Moore travels abroad it's not just the Bush administration he trashes - but the American people en-masse.

Here's a few more bon mots from the Kerry campaign's leading celluloid supporter, as cited by Mr. Brooks on Saturday:

''That's why we're smiling all the time,'' Moore told a rapturous throng in Munich. ''You can see us coming down the street. You know, 'Hey! Hi! How's it going?' We've got that big [expletive] grin on our face all the time because our brains aren't loaded down.''

To a crowd in Cambridge, Moore intoned: ''You're stuck with being connected to this country of mine, which is known for bringing sadness and misery to places around the globe.''

Here's Moore's reaction to the 9/11 attacks, offered while the rubble at Ground Zero was still smoldering: ''We, the United States of America, are culpable in committing so many acts of terror and bloodshed that we had better get a clue about the culture of violence in which we have been active participants.''

As for the terrorists currently killing American soldiers in Iraq, Moore compares them to Revolutionary war heroes who fought off British oppression:

''The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not 'insurgents' or 'terrorists' or 'The Enemy.' They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win.''
Yes, Michael Moore thinks you are stupid. He is counting on your vote for John Kerry to prove it. What a great American. This guy will deserve everything that comes his way, and I am not talking about the millions he is making off the chumps who fall for his trash. What goes around, comes around.

A bit off the subject, but heard Dick Morris the other night reminding all who were listening that if Bush wins this fall, he will be the first POTUS in our country's history who won an election but lost the popular vote to win reelection.

One of my fave radio talk show hosts Neal Boortz is convinced that the American people will foolishly vote Kerry in this fall. I sure hope he is wrong, as I don't want to see the death tax continue, cap gains taxes go up, and the tax cuts to be repealed. And that is just the small stuff. Worse will be to watch the US fall into the clutches of the corrupt and incompetent UN. Such will be likely outcomes of a Kerry presidency.

This reminds me of a show where American citizens were asked to name the provinces of Canada. NOBODY could do it. Many Canadians could name all 50 American states though. I don't think I know anyone that can name the Canadian provinces.

One question I have is how did Moore get video tape of Bush reading the Goat book to kids while the planes are crashing into the World Trade Centers? How come we never saw that tape before now? And why the **** did Bush keep reading the book? Was it because he wanted to really know how the story ended?

Re: Moore thinks you are STUPID...

The goat reading's been available online for at least a year. I've seen bits of it on Hannity & Colmes. Luv's put links to it on this board.

There was a panel discussion on C-SPAN a few months back, on Humor and Politics. Drew Carey, by way of illustration, said you ask people a bunch of pop-culture questions, like name the characters on Friends, then ask them to name their congressman... Then observe the blank stares.

I could swear we just discussed this exact same thing on another thread, but, Americans ARE stupid. I noticed it when I was about 16. Michael Moore would be stupid not to notice it! What American in existence thinks that Americans are smart?! Because that person can definitely prove the point! There was this special on HBO called [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] where these two kids went to a convenience store in New York offering to pay anyone who could answer three questions correctly. I can't remember what the were, maybe someone else here can. I remember one was to identify Afghanistan on a map. People were pointing at Kansas and Poland! And two of them were teachers! Needless to say, no one got the $20.

How do you go about proving Americans are stupid?

Asking a few strangers in a convenience store some questions?

Yeah, that'll do it.

That movie was a single example.

On the contrary, to prove Americans are stupid just look around you. You don't need a convenience store. The American ignorami are lurking everywhere.

Ok, let's use the movie's example.

Who's to say they didn't interview a rocket scientist that isn't good with geography? Is that person 'stupid' because they don't know where Afghanistan is? Because they don't follow politics, they don't know who their senators are?

Why does that make someone stupid?

Is there some clearinghouse of information that every American needs to know or be classified as stupid?

I could understand if you came out and said that Americans are stupid when it comes to politics and geography and then had some study that involved hundreds or thousands. But you're making a blanket claim that Americans are stupid.

Again, how do you prove that?

I guess you are right. The fact is, I can't prove that Americans are stupid any more than you can prove they aren't. I can only go by my observations living in this country, and spending time in others. And that is that Americans as a whole are the most ignorant group out there, and we have our very ethnocentric society to thank for it I am certainly not saying that knowledge is what makes a person smart. I don't believe that in any way. As for the example, I can identify Afghanistan on a map only because I learned it from watching Animaniacs. But even if I hadn't had the cartoon show to sing me a song about the nations of the world, I would at least know that it was not in the general vicinity of Kansas.

I do not think every American is stupid. I don't think anyone on this board is stupid, for example. I know a lot of smart people. But I know a lot of completely clueless ones too. And the general aura I get out of America is that of ignorance and stupidity.

Re: Moore thinks you are STUPID...

I'd sure like to see the polls that asked citizens of other countries questions about THEIR politicians. I'm willing to bet the average Joe Schmoe in those countries isn't THAT much more in-the-know than Americans are.

Oh, but you never see THOSE statistics.

I didn't type in the close-quotation mark because that wasn't the actual end of the actual quote in [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]. Moore also said, in the same paragraph,
Quote:
National Geographic produced a survey which showed that 60 per cent of 18-25 year olds don't know where Great Britain is on a map. And 92 per cent of us don't own a passport."
So, instead of attacking Michael Moore every chance we get, why not let's all go after the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY??? Just for kicks...!

Somebody misspelled "fahrenheit". Normally I wouldn't point this out, but given the title of this thread, I just couldn't resist.

Re: Moore thinks you are STUPID...

Though I'll agree it's sad what 'some' Americans don't know, I don't pay much attention to shows like that, or even segments like that, simply because that's what they WANT to portray. That's the purpose of them, so they're going to only show you those results.

We've got some awfully smart Americans, too. For example, "Jeopardy" and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." There are all kinds of smart and dumb in every country. We may be the only ones 'dumb' enough to call attention to our dumbness like we do.
