This is particularly odious:

Schwarzenegger also would eliminate a requirement that people convicted of animal cruelty be prohibited from owning a pet for three years and be forced to pay for medical care for the animals they have mistreated.


Shelters no longer would be required to search for owners who have embedded microchips in their pets that store addresses and phone numbers.

Animal overpopulation is a real problem, but the policy quoted above makes no sense.

Actually happened to me, btw. Years ago, one of my dogs disappeared from the yard, turned up months later in one of the shelters where I'd posted a photo of him. They would have put him down anyway, except for they had one guy working at that shelter who actually cared enough to check the "Missing Pet" board the day before animals were killed, and to actually call any possible pet owners.

Y'think maybe if more people had gone to see "Terminator 3", Herr Gropenfuhrer would have stayed out of politics? ...Maybe???
