Al-Zarqawi, phone home

From the Associated Press... speculative, yet interesting.

-------------------

June 15, 2004 -- CAIRO, Egypt — A leader of militants in Iraq has purportedly written to Osama bin Laden, saying his fighters are being squeezed by U.S.-led coalition troops, according to a statement posted yesterday on Islamic Web sites.

It was not possible to authenticate the statement allegedly from Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian whose insurgent group claimed responsibility for the videotaped beheading of American Nicholas Berg.

Titled "The text of al-Zarqawi's message to Osama bin Laden about holy war in Iraq," the statement appeared on Web sites that have recently carried claims of responsibility for attacks in Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

"The space of movement is starting to get smaller," it said. "The grip is starting to be tightened on the holy warriors' necks and, with the spread of soldiers and police, the future is becoming frightening."

The statement says the militant movement in Iraq is racing against time to form battalions that can take control of the country "four months before the formation of the promised Iraqi government, hoping to spoil their plan."

It appears to refer to the government that would take office after the elections scheduled for January 2005.

It also says insurgents are planning to intensify attacks on Iraqi soldiers and police.

Calling Iraqi forces "the occupier's eye, ear and hand," the statement says, "We are planning on targeting them heavily in the coming stage before they are fully in control."

U.S. authorities believe al-Zarqawi runs his own terrorist operation but is an ally of bin Laden.

The nine-page statement was longer than previous ones from al-Zarqawi, and uses classical Arabic language and poetry typical of militant leaders.

The statement isn't signed. Previously, statements or claims of responsibility purportedly from al-Zarqawi have been issued by his Monotheism and Jihad group.

If the militants fail to win Iraq, "we will have to leave for another land to uphold the [Islamic] banner, or until God chooses us as martyrs," the statement says.

-----------------------------

Of course, we all know there is no connection between Osama and those in Iraq. In fact, the part that they left out was this...

When asked by little Achmed on the street about his connections to Saddam Hussein, al-Zarqawi replied, "Who eeez thees Sodom you speek of? I know NO such perzon! Now go away, else I shall taunt you a second time!"

The panel investigating the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks found "no credible evidence that Iraq and al Qaeda cooperated on attacks against the United States," according to a staff report issued on Wednesday.

The report contradicts statements from the Bush administration that Saddam Hussein had ties to al Qaeda.

No one in their right mind should trust any output from this political instrument they call the "9-11 Commission." Among other things, the fact that they retain a member with blatant evidence of a conflict of interest should tip one off immediately that this panel has no credibility.

Re: Al-Zarqawi, phone home

Bush Jr is just as much a conflict of interest being President than anyone on any commission.

Based on what? The fact that he is the son of a former POTUS? Surely you jest.

I gather from the following article that you linked above:

followed by knocking Bush's ability to lead that you agree that he should not have uttered his disapproval of what the DOJ did regarding those documents bearing criticisms of Gorelick? Does this mean that you approve of the DOJ's position?

I was being ironic. It was a reference to my [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] about how even Bush's supporters only listen to him when he says what they want to hear.

Re: Al-Zarqawi, phone home

I guess I just get lost on your take of all this because I think Bush has exhibited adequate leadership skills, to say the very least. I don't agree with much of what he does, but he is leading according to what he apparently believes to be the proper way to lead.

You're referrencing an accusation made which there was only ONE memo to support, a memo that Ashcroft pulled out of his bunghole, and you're bringing it up AFTER Dubbya said we should let go, so the commision (WHICH HE APPOINTED) could do their work. Then Ashcroft comes out of a brief period in hiding to alert the public to a threat of terrorism, which Tom Ridge, the Director of Homeland Security says he wasn't all that concerned with. After a few days of polishing out the rough edges in THAT story, Ashcroft is in front of congress NOT invoking Executive Privilege by invoking Executive Privilege...?!?

I just ignored all the fun details of those stories to get at their essence, methinks. Details, like the "new" terror alert issued by John "Lost and Election to a DEAD GUY" Ashcroft contained the same information as a previous alert, and took information from website that's been officially classified as unreliable. And that the memo refuses to release (as opposed to the one he released and got scolded for releasing) has already been leaked to the press.

Blind leading blind. Fall. DITCH!

And by the "led" blind, I'm referring to those what says "Bush is doing alright because he's doing what he thinks is alright." Those what aren't aware that he polls whether or not he should admit it if he thinks he did something wrong...

Where's the evidence of this?

Apparently, not on FoxNews. Check the back pages of "the liberal media."
