Register Now] ) I was thinking why it is not restored. Scranton restored their train yards into Steam Town Historic Site and Shopping Center. At the time, Steam Town was derided as pork barrel, but it has created a lot of jobs and put back tax revenues. There have been various private deals to restore the Steel plant into a tourist site that fell thru.
It seems some very large scale things have to be done by government, or at least public/private partnerships. Also, transit systems and the power grid come to mind. Most power companies are quasi-public, highly regulated entities.
