How is getting caught up in historical minutiae going to help us deal with the Islamofascists of today who have embarked upon a mission to kill all "infidels" as their particular interpretation of the Koran has commanded them to do?

Not "caught up" in it, just aware of it, though I could ask how perpetuating falsehoods about the history is going to help us deal with the present... I could ask that!

The problem is, we don't know who the "true" followers of Christ were back then. We can not assume that those who performed these attrocities were real Christians since we have no way of knowing for sure. Christ said, "by your fruits you will know them". That to me is an indicator that the people you are speaking of are not "them". To this very day, there are denominations and churches with the words "christian" or "Christ" in their name that have doctrine which does not jive with Scripture. Do not be easily fooled by whats in a name. However, this argument is commonly used to point out the errors of Christianity. Some of these same people believe that Hitler was a Christian, despite the evidence that he was involved in occult rituals and other satanic doctrines. Mayor

Historical? They're not really "pertinent", which was sort of my point, but in the past, such as with the Moorish conquest of Spain, or the Moors in Sicily, or with the Ottoman Empire, Muslim rulers weren't facists. Mostly they were more tolerant of different religions in the territories they conquered than "Christian" conquerors were. There were brutal torwards to dissent, but if you look at the Salem Witch Trials... The result of the Moorish influence in Spain, for example, was that the Spanish missions in the "New World" were more humane (in sick and inhumane sort of a way, of course) than the British colonies in their treatment of the natives. None of it's really important, because Osama bin Ladin is no [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]. Wahhabism, which is the brand of Islam OBL preaches, is to Islam what Puritanism was to Christianity. The vast majority of Muslims don't support it, and pray to Allah that it will go away.

Good questions, Mayor, that doubtless will remain unanswered by the Islamic community. Some say that they fear reprisals on the part of the Islamofascists, so they stay quiet. One can never be sure. Film clips from the ME featuring people dancing in the streets in the wake of the 9-11 attacks don't do much to bolster the faith that many in the Islamic communities truly condemn what that small group of Saudi Islamic extremists did that day. In fact, one should get the impression that these people endorse these attacks. Why should they (Al Qaeda cells, Islamic extremist cells, and those who would support them) not be approached preemptively? Do we wish to see what the Israelis have lived with for years now (widely disseminated terrorist attacks upon innocents) take place on our soil? Are we really ready for it?

Ariel Sharon is a "grown-up"?!? "Grown-out"... maybe? (Sorry, but I couldn't resist.). I really miss Yitzhak Rabin, he seemed to have better ideas about resolving the conflict there than even Shimon Perez.BTW, when Sharon goes to jail on corruption charges (if Israel should be so lucky!) does he promise to take "Scooter" Libby from Dick Cheney's office with him...? And PERLE?!? ![]() <Yeah, I really SHOULD have resisted! >

I was speaking of American leadership. Israel would have been much better off with Netanyahu. Mayor

Israel represents the slender thread of "democracy" that we have to hang on to in the ME. Why, CT, would anyone in the US support anything or anyone who could or would stand in the way of that? A stable ME is in the world's interest. Why does this simple fact remain elusive to some?
