Question Who Will Kerry Pick for a Running Mate?

Okay...rumor has it that John Kerry is going to select someone very soon to be his running mate on the Democratic ticket. Who do you think it will be?

Possible people include:

Richard Gephardt
John McCain
Evan Bayh
John Edwards
Wes Clark
Joe Biden
Bob Kerrey
Bob Graham
Bill Nelson
Tom Vilsack
Bill Richardson
and many, many more

Let's see who among us guesses this correctly.

I am going to guess Tom Vilsack (Gov. of Iowa) as my pick. He won't overshadow Kerry on the campaign trail and he also offers a interesting hardship story that dramatically contrasts with Kerry's privileged background. He was left on the steps of an orphanage and adopted by an alcoholic mother who routinely beat him. He is my first pick but I also like Gephardt.

Can he really choose John McCain? I know the idea has been kicked around a lot lately that he might but I don't see how that would be a good thing. It could alienate the die hard Democrats in my opinion.

I saw something flash across the bottom of CNN while ago that said they (Kerry and McCain) were hitting the campaign trail together.
I guess united in their 'we hate Bush' philosophy they wouldn't be unlikely running mates. McCain is about 3/4 Democrat anyway; wouldn't surprise me for him to turncoat.

The media LOVED McCain for his 15 minutes of fame. Republicans overwhelmingly rejected him in the primaries. As far as I am concerned, the Dems can have him. He serves no purpose as a Republican.

Re: Who Will Kerry Pick for a Running Mate?

Personally, I don't think that Kerry will ask McCain to be the VP candidate. I think it would be GREAT if Kerry would though. The press still loves McCain...imagine all the free press that they'd get.

Nah, my guess is still Vilsack though. Someone who won't trump Kerry at every turn if Kerry wins the presidency.

Only a guess-Senator Bob Graham(florida)

No matter who gets picked. The democrats will love it ,and the republicans will hate it. It's all a game of spinning.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson -He might be the best choice for going after the hispanic voters which tend to lean towards the republican side<I believe>

I have said from the beginning of the primaries that the Kerry/Edwards ticket would be ideal... hope that happens.

LOL

That would be wonderful. We could be rid of him here in North Carolina!

Yep-I don't think that much of Edwards either...he reminds me of a slick talking used car salesman. Disclaimer: That does not mean being a car salesman is bad

Re: Who Will Kerry Pick for a Running Mate?

I find it amusing that Kerry is so weak that they are attempting to team his up with a weak Republican. That's what it takes to get a Democrat elected? Heaven help us...

Cross this guy off the list!

Okay-- I guess I need to change my prediction:

************************************************

Vilsack's Running Mate Hopes May Be Hurt

DES MOINES, Iowa (June 17) - Gov. Tom Vilsack, a potential vice presidential candidate, signed a measure two years ago declaring English the state's official language. That could hurt his chances of joining the Democratic ticket.

Iowa's English-only measure and dozens like it nationwide draw virtually unanimous and vehement opposition from Hispanics, an important Democratic constituency, who view them as thinly veiled racism. Hispanics, the nation's largest and fastest-growing minority group, are being eagerly courted by Democrat John Kerry and President Bush

Re: Who Will Kerry Pick for a Running Mate?

I keep hearing a lot of talk about possible choices, including people that Kerry ran against in the primaries. Aren't these the same people who were all saying none of their opponents were good enough to run the country? How can you go from basically saying, "Hey, you're too clueless to be president, but if you want, you're good enough to be vice president"? Seems to me, he'd need to pick someone totally outside that whole group of people.

Re: Who Will Kerry Pick for a Running Mate?

I figure it might be either Wes Clark or John Edwards.

I don't think he'll pick Wes Clark. Clark doesn't seem to offer anything that Kerry doesn't already have.

Edwards would be a good choice since he isn't re-running for his Senate seat and would have plenty of time to help on the campaign trail but I just don't see it happening. I bet we'll all be surprised at the selection.

Re: Who Will Kerry Pick for a Running Mate?

I figured Clark because most people would spew coffee all over their computer screens when anyone mentions Kerry's military "record." Clark shores things up in that department.
