What if 9/11 Never Happened?

Kathleen Parker wrote an excellent opinion piece on this subject last week (I won't post it, since it's an opinion piece, but anyone who's interested could probably google it).

Let's say that Bush "connected the dots" prior to 9/11 and took action. Pre-emptive action. He somehow came up with the names of the 19 hijackers and rounded them up. Ooops, racial profiling. Can't do it. He found out bin Laden was behind it and the Taliban was protecting him. Bombed Afghanistan. Ooops, war-mongering. Can't do it. He figured out that they were planning to use commercial airlines. Shut them all down. Ooops, hysterical over-reacting. Too damaging to the economy. Too inconveient. Can't do it. Tells everyone what the hijackers' plan was for 9/11. No one believes it because it couldn't possibly have happened.

9/11 Commission is formed to figure out what the h*ll is wrong with our President and why he took action to prevent something without it having already happened. Commission deteriorates into partisan finger-pointing. Richard Clarke shows up and says there was no way terrorists could have pulled this off (as you could read in his new book).

Without the actual event of 9/11, I seriously doubt the majority of people in this country would have believed it was possible. I know I probably wouldn't have.

If Bush had prevented the attack and 9/11 had never happened, liberals would be running around calling him "a crazy, war-mongering, stupid, election-stealer with no concern for our economy or domestic freedoms". Sound familiar?

Excellent point.
Reminds me of this from another president...

"It is too probable that no plan we propose will be adopted. Perhaps another dreadful conflict is to be sustained. If to please the people, we offer what we ourselves disapprove, how can we afterwards defend our work? Let us raise a standard to which the wise and the honest can repair. The event is in the hand of God."

~GEORGE WASHINGTON, remarks at the first Continental Congress, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 14, 1787

Weren't some of the 19 here on expired visas? Rounding them up wouldn't be racial profiling, would it?

Way too true about how the Dems would have reacted. D....if you do and D.....if you don't with them. I think they are very, very good at it, though.

Well, of course it would be, because they were all Muslims from Arabic countries. The only way they could have used the visa excuse would be if they rounded up everyone who's here on an expired visa.

Actually some of the hijackers were wanted on questioning for other bombings, so they would have had a legitimate reason to be detained. And, having worked in an embassy before, I can tell you that they do use profiling. Why else do you think that most single young women are denied visas?

Re: What if 9/11 Never Happened?

ARE single young women frequently denied visas?! I had no idea! Is this because we're afraid they're coming here to find a husband, or because we feel they might become prostitutes? Just curious...
