Angry Howard Stern taken off the air?

Does this mean he's off everywhere in the US? What is Clearchannel?

I admit, he has been pushing the envelope this week. But I love him! My morning commute would not be the same without him

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

Yikes!
Clear Channel (I believe) owns nearly half, if not more, of the radio stations in the country. I can't remember the exact numbers but they are a huge company and own alot of radio airwaves.

I wouldn't mind if they took Howard Stern off the air. The guy doesn't contribute much to society unless talking sex is all you care to listen to on his show.

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

Does anyone know if the show they show on the E! Channel of the Howard Stern Show is the same stuff they broadcast on the radio? If so, I don't know how Stern has lasted as long as he has broadcasting that garbage. It's sick enough to watch, I can't imagine having to listen to it. You'd think he'd have been banned by now. His show is too raunchy.

I agree Pandybat. I can't believe some of the stuff I've seen on there. Makes Janet Jackson seem tame in comparison!!!!!!!!

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

This doesn't hurt my feelings at all. I have never listened to him on the radio, but while channel surfing, I have seen bits of his tv show on E! and am amazed the FCC has allowed him to continue to be on. Sure they 'blur' naked body parts, but you can still 'see', and the things they talk about are over the top. I have "R" rated movies or programs locked out on my satellite programming, but the Stern show must not be rated because it's on there all with no block. I am not a prude, but I do have a problem with young kids or teenagers stumbling on to that kind of a program. That's just not right.

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

Couldn't have said it better yorkielover. I like to go to bed at night and channel surf and I was totally amazed when I stumbled across that show. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen anything on E that I thought should be on tv. Nothing but naked women and sex. Wish there was someway to block it on my tv.

If you have DirecTV you can remove it from your list of channels. Not exactly blocking, but it would make someone go out of their way to view it...

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

I believe I am the only person here who is actually in the radio business, and the only one who has worked with and knows Howard Stern. So, let me clear up some confusion on this board concerning the story presented and the DoD commentary.

Clear Channel Communications owns about 10% of the radio stations in this country, not 50% or more as earlier stated. The Howard Stern radio show is syndicated around the country by Westwood One which is owned by Infinity Broadcasting, another radio station owner. Clear Channel Communications has pulled the plug on Stern for the six stations they own which had broadcast his show through a syndication deal with Westwood One. Infinity Broadcasting, which airs Stern's show in at least 40 markets, has not taken Stern off the air at all.

The E! show Howard Stern does is a video of the radio show. The E! show's content is not regulated by the FCC because it is shown on cable television, not over the air. The FCC at this point has no real authority to regulate cable television content.

John Hogan, the top executive with Clear Channel Communications, is testifying on Capitol Hill today regarding indecency over the airwaves. He was asked to testify by Congressman Fred Upton, a Republican from Michigan. In an earlier move to soften Mr. Hogan's Congressional lashings, Clear Channel this week fired Bubba The Love Sponge (Todd Clem), a morning jock on several Florida stations, for indecency over the air.

To sum up this post, the Howard Stern and Bubba plug pulling was probably made to show Congress Mr. Hogan is doing something about "indecency over the air." If you read Clear Channel's statement, this action is not a firing, and regarding the timing, it appears to be more of a government relations stunt. Howard will probably be back on the air in those six markets after the November elections, if not sooner. Bubba, since he didn't generate anywhere near Howard's revenue for Clear Channel, will most likely not be asked back anytime soon.

We now go back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

I don't understand why those beautiful girls go on his show.

Howard Stern just LOOKS dirty and skeevy. He's just nasty to look at and listen to.

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

Ya know I have no love loss for Howard Stern, but does this seem kinda "knee jerk" to anyone else? I mean Janet is exposed and all of a sudden the "blinds open" and people for the first time see the inappropriate things going on, on TV and the radio? I mean "shock jocks" have been around at least 20 years, some worse than Howard Stern. So, why take him off the air and not get rid of the rest of the crap out there?

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

Thanks FUN. Howard pretty much explained it that way on his radio show this morning, which I'm happy to say is still being broadcasted here in Philly.

Bassmount - Howard has always been a target because of the size of his audience. I agree, if they are going to go after him, they should be going after all of his copycats.

Do you think the same could be said about Limbaugh or Hannity? Just to satisfy my curiosity...

you tell me which is more obscene; Right wing pitbull/demagogue Sean Hannity telling us last February that Saddam could be dropping nukes on us in less than six months time, or Howard Stern mentioning funky sex in one of his risque'comedy bits?

Re: Howard Stern taken off the air?

Oh please... When did Hannity ever say that Saddam could drop nukes on us in six months? The closest that he ever came to saying that was to say Saddam was on the verge of developing nukes. Besides, that wasn't what I asked.

BTW, haven't we already had a discussion about what's appropriate to post? I think that you know that "Right wing pittbull" is over the line...
