Question It is too quiet in here!

Where are all the real trouble pundits? I haven't seen anything posted in a while that is even worth responding to (mainly because they are all so passe.)

Come on, bring on that outrageous right or left wing stuff that makes this forum hummmmmmmm. Has everyone given up? That's not the American way

Re: It is too quiet in here!

Trouble pundits get banned and only a few come back.
Plus, I think everyone is about talked out. I know I am. The only person I ever get to debate (if you wanna call it that..lol) is bwsmom.
I wish we could get back some of the old threads from the old Hot Potatoes forum. I am just now catching up to speed on what everyone was talking about in some of those earlier conversations. My interest in politics didn't seem to come alive until earlier this year so I didn't have a clue what some of those threads were even talking about back then. But now I'd like to discuss them some but everyone else is about talked out on some subjects.

Re: It is too quiet in here!

I really am stumped. There is so much trash being generated from both camps, that it makes me cringe. I am tired of all the angry people in both camps. I guess I was hoping for a candidate to come forward that would give me hope that this country could become united.

It seems the more devisive someone is the better their party likes them. I want issues discussed, but I am not sure any of the candidates (inlcuding the incumbent) have a clue.

I am conservative on moral issues, but liberal on social issues. I believe moral issues are the most important of the two. I don't like big business running the show, but I neither do I like labor unions doing the same. Who is my candidate? I am usually left with the lessor of two evils.

Where are those like me? Am I just a Lone Ranger? That's what I would like to discuss. Are their people like me who are fed up with both parties and their spinmasters?

I am fed up, Rod. But I tend to side more with the democrats because I perceive them as the lessor of the two evils.

Re: It is too quiet in here!

I would be with you except they fail me on the moral issues. There in lies the reason I lean toward the Republicans. Having said that, I feel I am leaning on something not very stable.

Re: It is too quiet in here!

Well, when it comes to the moral issues, I generally tend to think to myself, who's to say what's moral and what's not? I don't necessarily want any government making laws about moral issues. What's moral to one person may not be an issue with another person. I don't feel like we need a law or a bill to make it a requirement to be morally one way or the other.

Once again, I'm not happy with either of the candidates (well, it's yet to be determined who the Democratic candidate will be, but let's just say it's Kerry). Four years ago, I didn't want to vote for either candidate, and sadly, I feel the same way this year. *sigh*

I agree that morality cannot be legislated, but neither can immorality. That's the rub.

Re: It is too quiet in here!

True Telos, very true. Point taken. Still, it doesn't make me want to vote for Bush anymore because of his morality issues. To each his own, I guess.

Re: It is too quiet in here!

So we are left with having to listen to all the garbage from both sides and trying to make up our minds which party (it really isn't about the candidate) is the lessor of the two evils. I say it is about the party versus the candidate because they are truly the ones who call the shots. No matter how noble the candidate, eventually he/she has to either join lock step with the party to get anything done or run the risk of being totally ineffective.

Bush worked well in Texas with both parties, but it is evident that cannot happen in D.C.
I am not sure at this point that any president will be able to bring unity. It seems both parties want a clear dividing line. As long as that is the case, there will always be angry people.

If Kerry wins, there will be an outcry about his presidency too. In four years we will be going through this same process again and there will angry people saying "No more Kerry" or "Kerry No More" or whatever.

Politics are a drag. People get more passionate about personalties than issues. They want to hear the dirty laundry about the other guy, but don't even talk about their candidate! I think we are all insane. We actually think we can make a difference by slinging mud all over creation and then come out clean.

That has got to be the most insightful comment I have seen in a long time. Thank you telos, you have restored my faith in humanity!
