I don't think this was passed, but is that for real? They were actually consdering that? OMG!

In a nutshell:

To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes.

GENERAL RULE- Except as otherwise provided in this section, the period of national service performed by a person under this Act shall be two years.

Whoa... sounds kind of extreme to me!

Why extreme? Many countries, including our allied countries, have mandatory military duty. It usually ranges from 1 year to I think 3 years. I know Germany was 18 months when we were there year before last.

I hope this didn't get passed or is going to be passed. Part of living in the USA is the chance to be free. Mandatory military service does not constitute being free.

I agree, though not for the same reason. This is just a draft by another name. The volunteer military is far superior to the compulsory military of the Vietnam Era. Why would we ever want to go back to that?

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing yet, just wanted to know out of all of the "terms" in it why the "time in" bother Christopher the most. LOL

I can see the word mandatory bothering him, but it seems the "two years" is what bothered him and I mean well you have to spend at least 10 years in school, so 2 years is not that long. LOL
