President Bush in my town today.

President Bush is visiting SRC here in my town today. He will be about 5 miles away from my house. I'd like to go down and hear what he has to say but am pretty sure I couldn't get in. He's speaking at a remanufacturing plant with about 500 employees. I don't think they are even letting the public in so it would be nothing more than watching him go in and come back out to get back on the plane. I haven't heard what he's supposed to be talking about but I'm sure whatever it is, is not going to be about anything I want to ask him about.

Ask him how democracy came to mean the person with the most votes loses, here and in elections we won't let them have in Iraq, maybe? Or do you have a better one?

That is a good question. I was always under the impression that the person with the most electoral votes wins the election. Has that changed recently? If it did change to where the election is won by the popular vote, then we need to impeach this president!!!

Thats where my trusty dictionary comes in. I just learned recently in another thread how to use it. Democracy means: rule of the majority. Heck.. I just assumed they meant people. But I understand here on this board and in the rest of the world, it really means "rule of the elite."
My mistake.

You might want to open a book and read about the American government system. It might shed some light on the things you're obviously not understanding.

Specifically, look up 'republic.'

Heck... I'm not the one going to war for "democracy." Imagine W saying we were fighting for republic instead.

There certainly is a lot of fine reading material spoken about here. It's like the Oprah Book Club.

I think people recommend basic reading material to get someone caught up with a particular discussion.

For example, you implied that the President shouldn't be in office because the majority of people didn't vote for him. I assumed that you didn't understand the voting process or the type of government we have set up. If you understood it, you would known that the President is elected by the electoral college and not the general population. The general population elects the officials that cast their votes for the president. Was I correct that you didn't understand that?

Re: President Bush in my town today.

joe, you're getting to be tiresome...

First off, Twonky's right, complaining about the 2000 election show a deep misunderstanding of the US Constitution. Secondly, there's no disconnect between the concepts of Democracy and that of the Republic. Thirdly, direct democracy isn't the only form of democracy by a long shot and if your dictionary only lists the definition of a direct democracy I suggest replacing it with a more accurate one. Fourthly, every post I've seen from you so far has smacked of trolling (no offense to CagedTroll). I've tried to be kind to you, but you've left me no choice other than to be blunt: straighten up or receive your two week vacation. This thread is now closed. If Pandy wants to try this thread again, I hope that people will be more cooperative...

Re: President Bush in my town today.

My questions wouldn't be near the extent of what you all would want to ask.
My first question would be why my daughter and I can't get health insurance. We "supposedly" make too much money, yet they don't take into consideration things like utilities, groceries, etc.
Then I would ask him why we didn't stay on the hunt for Osama before heading out after Saddam.
Then I would ask him about basically the same thing that Joe is asking...why don't we get to vote on more things before they are put into action.
Just basic stuff....I'm sure if I was really going to talk to the President, I could think of some better questions than this to ask....lol
