Let me say this....

I think the moderating is being done with a very heavy hand. I think it prevents some interesting conversation between members of this board. I think that many potentially great contributors to this site have no incentive to post here.

I agree that it seems severe although I appreciate what he's trying do. You see, some of the posts are nothing but flames against people. What points are the people trying to make? We understand you don't like the person, but what are you accomplishing by doing nothing but flame?

If we could have serious discussion without all the little immature stuff then there would be no need to moderate like that.

I think what Tax is trying to do (and is doing a darn fine job of it) is keep the outright lies and serious rumormongering to an absolute minimum. Of the people he's put on vacation so far (two at my last count), one was for a "personal attack" against another member, and the other was for posting of false and inaccurate things that, when the poster was challenged, could not be substantiated. Both times, the person was warned in advance.

One of the reasons Hot Potatoes got so out of control toward the end was due to people's tempers getting out of control... a lot of that came from some of the truly ridiculous stuff being posted about the current President. Since only the temper-evident items were moderated (and not the posts that caused them), those of us who wanted a similar forum to be returned to DOD asked that the rules be stricter about the content of posts. So far, so good! Thanks Tax!!

But how can one person be the sole judge on what is a "lie" and what isn't when it comes to politics? We are all free to believe and say what WE feel is the truth for US! To post your own personal opinion which is based on your own intellect and life experience and to be told it is a LIE is just not right.

Opinion is opinion, true. But, when a person posts something like (and this is only an example): "GWB masterminded 9/11! There were no terrorists! There was no orchestration by Osama!", and we (disbelieving as we are) say to the poster "can you back that up with something concrete?", and that person either dodges the question altogether or can't come up with any factual basis for their post.... then what we have is a lie, plain and simple. This is what I am referring to.

You know as well as I do that there are a couple of people on here (present company excluded) who think nothing of posting the most ridiculous and slanderous things about the present administration just to rile the masses. This is what got tempers flaring in Hot Potatoes and led to what some perceived to be personal attacks. Since we don't want any of that nonsense this time around, they altered the rules and brought in someone new to make sure they're adhered to.

No one, luv, that's why I said "as an example"... I tried to make it as far out there as possible, so people would see the kind of stuff I refer to as a lie.

Saying "GWB has a bad foreign relations policy" is opinion, and one that is welcome to be posted (and would most definitely be debated!) But saying something like "GWB is planning on bombing every country in the world that has even an ounce of oil in its land" would be a lie - assuming, of course, that the person posting that could not back it up with something concrete. (Does that make sense? I'm tired from the day in the snow and have a bit of a headache, so I apologize if what I said is a bit disjointed...)

In the spirit of the season, I'll answer in a manner that is less insulting than the question:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and are free to express it. There are some things that are not allowed here because they are needlessly inflammatory (rushlimbaugh.com and **************************) or are simply inaccurate. You may believe what these sites are saying, but since they are not "hard" news sources they are barred.

Luv, I have no desire to "ban" you (truthfully no one has been banned as yet). I simply want you (and everyone else) to operate under the rules. If you find that to be "heavy handed", well, there are plenty of other avenues that will allow you to express your opinions in a more chaotic fashion and I wish you the best of luck in doing so.

Go back and read every thing you wrote in this thread. Then think about how you would react if someone had in essence called you a heavy handed dictator and then proceeded to ask a question that has been beaten to death in not just one, not two, but three separate threads. Then realize that you didn't get "banned", although a great many moderators wouldn't of put up with that.

As a final word on the subject, please do not clutter up the forum with threads like this in the future. If you have a problem with my actions, Mayor is only a PM away...
