Rolling eyes Metrosexuals and potty mouths....

First we had Dean publicly claiming to be a metrosexual (then backing down and admitting he didn't even know what the word meant!).... now we have John "Potty Mouth" Kerry using the "F word" in an interview with Rolling Stone ("I voted for what I thought was best for the country. Did I expect Howard Dean to go off to the left and say, 'I'm against everything'? Sure. Did I expect George Bush to f - - - it up as badly as he did? I don't think anybody did," Kerry told the youth-oriented magazine.) What's with these guys???

I'll take GWB's "strategery" any day! (And let's not even start on all the "F word" quotes attributed to GWB in his early years... I've seen them all and they are completely hearsay - not recorded interviews!)

GWB did F it up... Kerry is just telling it the way he sees it in an adult magazine interview. Are you offended by that? Do you think GWB never uses the word?

Easy there tiger... I'm simply pointing out that these guys who are running for the highest post in the land sure don't seem to be able to mind their mouths. You all had a great time making fun of GWB and his verbal foul ups... now it's our turn. These two need a lesson on public speaking, and when NOT to speak publicly!

(And I like your spin on "an adult magazine"... even the media who referred to the interview called Rolling Stone a "youth-oriented magazine"... )

I get Rolling Stone (but as a freebie) and I think it's one of those mags that you have to be 18 or older to order... maybe I'm wrong. I don't give it to my 12 and 14 year old boys to read... they usually only want the cover anyway . Personally, I appreciate it when someone is honest enough to swear... it makes me trust them more (call me crazy....)

How about Dennis Miller? He's certainly honest enough to swear!

(And I know what you mean about the Rolling Stone covers! )

I was talking about people who are running for office. Is Dennis Miller running? (I'm not being a wiseass... i truly don't know!)

Not to my knowledge... although with the way things are going these days (Ahnold is the governor of California??), it wouldn't surprise me. I did hear a rumor recently that Dennis Miller was going to run for the Senate in California, but I don't know how much truth there was behind it.

So here's a question... if swearing is okay in your book, what about drinking, drug use (not while in office - I hope! - but in their college years), etc. What about a petty criminal record (non-felony crimes)? I'm not trying to smart off either, but I'm curious to know where you draw the line. If swearing makes you trust someone more, what makes you trust them less?

How soon we forget: GWB was caught on camera, with an open mic, calling a reporter an "major league a**hole." That's while he was running for President. I guess that's acceptable, since he didn't realize he was being recorded.

Re: Metrosexuals and potty mouths....

Hee hee.... I knew someone would bring that up. Quite frankly, I wasn't any too happy with that little incident. He, too, needs to watch his mouth, especially when there may be open mic's around. However, when one KNOWS for certain that what they say is going to be published verbatim, one should try to have just a little more class, imho.

Re: Metrosexuals and potty mouths....

Why? That's like encouraging hypocrisy.

Kerry's a child of the 60s with an Ivy League education who's served his country in an unpopular war and then went onto to uncover the BCCI scandal. We're going to quibble over a word?

And, if we were, there's a difference between saying someone F***ed up, and calling someone an F*** Up. GWB called someone an a**hole, which isn't just vulgar. It's personal. And worse than that is he did it behind the guy's back instead of saying it to his face.

I'm feeling like I'm in the third-grade again, not being able to spell out the actual words...

Maybe I wasn't clear... I agree with you about the GWB incident. The thing these guys all need to remember is that they are being held to a higher standard, like it or not, fair or not. A leader is supposed to be just that... a leader. Suppose LMT's 12-year-old starts popping off with the "F word" anytime he feels like it and, when reprimanded, says "Well hey, John Kerry says it, and he's running for President!"

Seriously, we've come to expect it from the entertainment world (which isn't held to the same standard), but when one has aspirations of leading the U.S., one should mind one's language. It's a pretty simple concept really. These guys spend a rather large chunk of their lives doing public speaking and/or rehearsing/learning about public speaking. They should be well-versed in what is and is not appropriate. (That goes for the occupant of the White House too, no matter which party he (or she) is from!)

(LOL on your "third-grade" statement, btw!)

Re: Metrosexuals and potty mouths....

I don know which is worse a potty mouth or one that invents his own words, it doesn't speak well of our educational system, does it?

I can't say I am offended by the occasional swear word, and what kid 12 and up hasn't heard the "f" word before. My kids don't go running around saying strategery just because Bush used it. My husband and I are responsible for our kids language not a political figure.

I would rather hear the "F" word than friggin. it means the same thing but we are supposed to be bothered by that.

What about someone who claims to be something (in this case, Dean claiming to be a "metrosexual"), then admitting he doesn't even know what the word means?! He wasn't inventing a word, he was trying to get "in" with another crowd of (hopeful, for him) voters through a word he wasn't even familiar with! How would it have looked if he had later found out that "metrosexual" meant someone who sleeps with aliens from another planet? (Of course, it doesn't mean that... it's supposed to be the new pc term for guys who prissy themselves up - manicures, hundreds of dollars in spa treatments, hair products, etc - all while being heterosexual). Why is it acceptable for Dean to make a complete moron out of himself, but "strategery" is offensive?

Beyond that, my other question still stands... where is the line drawn? If it's not swearing (and apparently, for MANY people around this country, it wasn't adultery), then what is it? A criminal past (non-felony, of course)? Vices the average joe on the street would find disgusting (bestiality, necrophilia, etc)?? Where do we draw the line and say "This person is not fit to be a leader, based on his/her...."? I'd like to know where you all draw the line, really!

No, it certainly doesn't.. We all know which party the teachers' unions have been backing for decades now, don't we? How would we fix our education system? Throw money at it? yeah, right! Look at the DC schools.. $15,000 per student, and one of the lowest test scores in the nation!!

At least GWB is doing something about our shoddy education system instead of just complaining about it like the Democrats have been doing for years..

You know, as I think about it.. That's probably why he's hated so much by them. He's taking the issues they've been complaining about, and actually fixing them. Education, Prescription Drugs..

You do know, of course, that "strategery" was a word that Saturday Night Live writers made up when they were writing the spoofs of the 2000 debates. It wasn't GWB.

Are you serious? Well, I can't argue that point with you. You feel the way you do, and I feel the way I do.

I hope your eyes are feeling better..

I'm not surprised you equate using a naughty word in a private conversation between two running mates to be the same thing as using an even naughtier word during an interview with a reporter. Interesting piece of cultural information for you, Martin. I know that in the UK, the "F" word is used about as commonly as the word "the", but in the U.S. it's still taboo. There are millions of Americans who won't go see a movie if it has the "F" word in it.

Who knows? Being a degenerate worked to get Bill Clinton elected, maybe the Dems are just trying to stoop to his level..
