Proof of Bias in the Media..

Just read the headlines..

From MSNBC..

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

In their veiled attempt at political correctness, NBC is implying that we may have went out and killed 46 Iraqi citizens just smoking cigarettes on the side of the road.

From CBS News..

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

better..

keeping in mind they have at least 3 interactive links with negative news underneath the main story.

From ABC News..

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

that's a good one I suppose.

From Fox News..

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

See how they spin?

Had you only got your news from MSNBC, and not read the story, you would think completely different if you had read only the headlines from Fox News.

I'm about halfway through "Slander" by Ann Coulter who cites example after example where the media slant their coverage not only left, but WAY left..

That, my fine feathered friends is why Fox News seems right, because compared to the rest of the media, they are.

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

Just wondering....does anyone ever admit that the media is slanted in their favor?

Probably not.

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

the conservative news sources don't attempt to come off as middle of the road as the big three do.

That's why their ratings are tanking.

Newsmax.com, cnsnews.com, worldnetdaily.com are all conservative news sources, and they pull no punches about it.

That's the difference. Conservative news sources say "We're conservative".. Liberal news sources say "We're not liberal, we're main stream America" when nothing could be further from the truth.

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

In re-reading my post, I can see how you might have been confused, LMT. I put the Fox link on there as a contrast to the other three.

Fox News is the only one I'll watch.

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

Those who primarily watch Fox News are significantly more likely to have misperceptions, while those who primarily listen to NPR or watch PBS are significantly less likely.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] (not the best source I could find, but the actual report of the survey is in .pdf format, available for download at www.pipa.org.)

There's also the Fox daily memo leaked by Charlie Reina, and stories about the way the Republican Senate Filibuster was "directed" by FoxNews to give time for opening graphics, voice over intros..., and Roger Aisles allegedly sending a confidential memo to Karl Rove after 9/11 with advice for how Bush should respond. And putting George W. Bush's cousin prominently on staff for election night coverage in 2000. And networks' (CBS, ABC, NBC) nightly news hours getting 23 million viewers, whereas cable (CNN, Fox) are 6 mill for huge stories (wars and such), then they drop, fast.

It's also owned by a guy (Australian) who repeatedly kowtows to the communist Chinese government so he can maintain his exclusive satellite television rights there.

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

Wasn't Geraldo a member of Fox(you know the one that put our troops in danger when the war was on) ?

I sure cons watch their news source and libs watch theirs so what, who cares, as long as it leans the way you think it should then its acceptable to you.

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

my point is this.

Conservative news sources say "We're conservative."

Liberal news sources say "We're apolitical. We don't take sides" when nothing could be further from the truth.

Could we please come up with another abbreviation for "Conservatives"? "cons" has a very negative connotation.

thanks.

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

Nope

Seriously, how about we just use "C" for conservative and "L" for liberal? That way we can all use a version of shorthand while avoiding calling the dominant political philosophy "cons"...

Oh yeah, the famous Fox News, I'll give my opinion here, that is that if you report both sides of a story equally that is considered "leftist" by the right...

ONLY one side of a story should ever be covered, the mere attempt to report in an unbiased manner is proof of left slanting... ...

Hence the BBC (easily the best most unbiased news source in the world) is seen as "left leaning", and yet the right wing STILL see the media as left leaning... ...

Here is a link from one of the few left leaning newspapers out there (for left leaning, read unbiased):...

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now]

By the way, the funniest thing I have ever seen in the media (funnier than The Simpsons) is the tag line that Fox News use, "Fair and Balanced"... ...

Now that's inspired.....

When you don't like the news the simple answer is to choose only the news that agrees with you and Fox News?? fills that void...

Re: Proof of Bias in the Media..

Our local jazz station uses NPR for their news updates.... I'm constantly appalled by the type of spin they put on their stories (and I do mean stories!) KC, you find it amusing that Fox uses "fair and balanced"... I find it equally amusing that NPR calls themselves "public" in anything other than the non-network sense of the word... they should call themselves N-DNC-R.

Methinks your local jazz station IS NPR, along with your local classical, and possibly even blues music stations. Jazz music stations don't draw the ratings to be supported strictly by advertisers.

Without NPR everything else becomes a Clear Channel station and it's nothing but Britney Spears and Eminem "Radio-Edits" every time you turn on the radio. Oh yeah, there'd also sports, and talk-radio (really good source for news... ).
