Challenge America with Erin Brockovich: The Miracle in Manhattan

Erin Brockovich, the legal champion and real-life inspiration for the Academy-award winning movie that bears her name, was given a challenge by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani to spearhead the rebuilding of a dilapidated ampitheatre and soccer field. In addition, she will also have to plan the park's grand opening party for thousands of children in New York City on December 16. Mayor Giuliani presented the challenge to Ms. Brockovich from East River Park, the site located in lower Manhattan where the renovation is to take place.

Ms. Brockovich has been given from December 10 through December 16 to help complete this enormous task. A team of architects, designers and construction specialists has been assembled to establish the safety, planning, permission and feasibility of this project. The project is of a scale equal to one year's work, but Ms. Brockovich will be given less than a week to accomplish this. From demolition to completion, she must convince and "challenge" America to contribute to the renovation. If completed, the park will be open to the public for recreation and performances.

Details of Ms. Brockovich's challenge include:
· Locate 100,000 square feet of astro turf to fill the soccer field
· Find 7,000 linear feet of wood for ampitheatre bleachers
· Cast 15,000 square feet of asphalt paving for the walkways
· Recruit construction workers, contractors and businesses to donate their services and materials free of charge
· Plan a grand opening winter wonderland party complete with "snow" and top celebrity talent for thousands of children on December 16
· Audition musical performers and artists to serve as the party's entertainment
· Needs construction materials, tree arborists, extras — such as 2 bronze eagles — to rebuild amphitheatre
