| Why do you think Survivor is so Popular?
I have had to explain why I like watching Survivor to some people and I thought I would share my thoughts on it here with my fellow Survivor junkies...lol! First of all, I love gameshows! Now, obviously, Survivor is more than just a gameshow, it's also about human nature. I will probably have a hard time explaining my thoughts, but here goes... I think people can relate to Survivor, because of the complex relationships in the game and how they mirror real life. For example, our relationships at work, with friends and their spouses and the people within our own families [in-laws, etc.] There are many situations in which we are with people that we do not "choose" to be with and we have to figure out how to survive with these people all the time...lol! At work, we are thrown together with people of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds that we have to work with everyday. You see bad guys get ahead sometimes, and then sometimes the good guy gets a break. There are alliances made all the time. How many times have you seen someone get promoted to a position of power and then they allign themselves with their own buddies! I also think the recent power play with the 4 brats is a good example of how not to treat people and and good lesson in life. We all make and keep alliances of some sort in our own lives everyday. A lot of people believe that Survivor is popular due to the back-stabbing nasty aspect of the game. I disagree. I think people really enjoy Survivor for the time when the lying, nasty back-stabber gets what's coming to them....the boot!!! There are a lot of people I have to deal with in my own life that I would like to give the boot to, but I can't, so I live vicariously through Survivor...LOL! Didn't we all just love it on the last Survivor when Colby showed his integrity and loyalty and choose Tina to go with him for the final vote. I think most people like to see the good guy succeed and win. Most of the buzz about the last Survivor was about the nice friendships that formed....Roger and Elizabeth come to mind. It was really sweet watching them each week...like a father and daughter relationship. In this Survivor, you see how the nasty people are going quickly and we are all so happy about it!!! I really enjoy the challenges as well. Not just the physical ones, but the mental ones too. I like watching everyone work as a team and I get so tense wondering who will win! So, yes, I enjoy my Survivor...lol! I like watching the bad guy get the boot and the good guy get ahead!!! It makes me feel like all is right with the world...lol! Okay, I won't go that far, but you know what I mean... What do you all think? Lori Last edited by dlabrie708; 11-18-2001 at 07:53 PM. |

very well said lori, I also like survivor becuase i can live vicariously through them. I would love to do a show like this and see if i had what it took to "survive", not only to win the million but living in those rough conditions, living with a bunch of people i dont really know and maybe dont like and the tough elements they have, no shower, toothbrush, wild animals, etc. but having 3 young kids i would never be able to do it now but i can live through these folks. i am jumping around as they do the challenges. and anguishing with them when they have to vote someone off. and making myself beleive that i could eat those bugs if i had to (no way). as a stay at home mom who's biggest challenge is deciding which park to go to and what to make for dinner each day.this show gives me something to think about and challenge myself towards, could i do that type of thing. just my 2 cents and i know it isnt said very well, but i hope someone understands what i am trying to say ![]() karen

I KNOW I would never make it on Survivor. I get grossed out when there is too much fat on a steak, so I don't think I would do well with eating bugs and drinking cow's blood! Lori |

Here's my lecture for the next milenium: Ages from now when the question is asked: What went wrong in the 21st century? The answer will be that we stopped caring for our children ourselves and they stopped having the comfort of the family unit (mommy and/or daddy spending hours and hours with them) Result: a whole society that does not value family and all that comes with it....Leads to all kinds of warped ideas about happiness in ones life So if you are a stay-at-home mom be very very proud. You have sacrificed to give your kids something valuable and you will reap what you sew in years to come. Now why is Survivor popular? I do not have a clue. All I know is it makes me laugh and it makes me cry and I feel for some of the contestants, and I enjoy cheering against others, and I know I could never do what they do but I thoroughly enjoy watching them do it. I look forward to each and every episode. |
