I just got to thinking what is the big difference between the wild pig being killed on the other show and them sending the chickens out to be killed. I mean they had a fit about the pig, they both are living so why not have a fit here. I am not saying don't eat meat, I think it was meant to be. But this just got me wondering anyone else have any ideas? |

I think more people are used to eating chickens. chickens are raised to be egg layers or be dinner I think the wild pig incident got to people becuase they went out and hunted it and killed it. the chickens are in a little coop meant to be eaten. I am sure a vegetarian wouldnt like either option but non-veggies can accept the chickens being killed. also i dont remember then showing the chickens being killed on the last survivor?? they really showed that pig though. If they hadnt been so graphic about it i dont thing there would have been such an upheaval.karen - who eats venison that a neighbors friend kills but wouldnt want to see it being killed.

Yeah...they didn't actually show the chickens being killed. But that was what Kimmi and Alicia were fighting about. The chickens weren't laying eggs so they killed them if I remember correctly.

Yes if they showed the chickens being killed we would be grossed out. We had chickens on my parents farm and we would catch one for Sunday dinner quite often. We lay it down with its head over a stump and chopped it off. It was quick and painless for the chicken as it was all over in a second. Chickens are not very bright by the way so they don't even seem afraid. Pigs on the other hand are very intelligent animals and I think they feel a form of fear. After we chopped off each chickens head it was traditional to watch the headless chicken dance around for a while. Call me crass or whatever but this was just part of living on the farm..... |

I have to disagree that chickens don't know fear. If you catch several and the other see you kill one, they shake, they are scared. We never let them see anymore. I think it is the principal of it if PETA want's to have a fit for one animal they should for all. Sure chickens are raised for food but then hogs are too. Hunters hunt wild aniamals. The people were hungry so they killed a hog. I feel like this is double standards. |

You are probably right Nanc. I was just relating my experience. I am not a big PETA fan. I do work with one tho. We have really funny discussions. Just last week she was saying how horrible it would be to hit a squirrel. My thought was how horrible it would be to swerve or break too hard and kill a human. I am all for kindness to animals but I put human life first. As to Survivor, the pig thing got lots of attention and that is what the producers want. Chickens have been raised for both eggs and meat for a very long time. I do not think there is anything wrong with the survivor contestants using the food sources they are given. Kimmi on Survivor 2 should have realized she would have a problem, they get so little food they need to eat whatever is available. |
