New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

This looks about as close to reality as you can get.

I plan to watch this

Contestants competing on The Moment of Truth will be hooked-up to a lie detector and asked to answer 21 questions without fibbing for the chance to win the $500,000 grand prize. Not surprisingly, the questions' subject matter grows more difficult with each correct answer given and -- as friends and family members watch from the studio audience -- owning up to the truth becomes harder.

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

Sadly this was one of the worst new reality shows... I was excited to see it as well... Until I was 10 minutes into it. How sad is it that an audience cheers for you when you don't lie? And what you didn't lie about was something like stealing a co-workers tips? I can't bring myself to watch another episode of this

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

I didn't really pay much attention to the audience applause, but I was thinking they were doing so because they were happy that the person advanced or made it to a higher payout level. How about the question to the one man about whether he blew any of his son's college funds-and he answered "NO" and that was a honest answer-I'm sure it provided much comfort/relief to his son & family. Or how about the woman who was asked whether she ever sabotaged a contestant on a beauty talent show? Again she answered "No", and that was a honest answer. The whole idea behind the show is that people will lie-the trick is to catch them. According to various experts during a 10 minute conversation with somebody they will lie, deceive, be deceitful on average of 1-3 times for whatever reasons.

I wouldn't mind if they got rid of the audience applause/cheers

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

Dude, the first guy was a total jerk! I'm sure his wife is going to divorce him (I would!) and he didn't even win any money because he lied! He won't have a kid with her because he's not sure if "she's the one"... And yet he married her? And he lied about not touching someone he was training "inappropriately"... The show makes me sad! I'm hoping it's not real, and these people are all in on it... I'm waiting for the first lawsuit, lol. Lie detectors aren't 100%. I'm sure they make you sign a waiver though. I stopped watching after the guy who didn't lie about not gambling away his kids college fund. =P

The guy I was thinking about-was married at like age 16, and has been married for 30+ years. I think you are talking about a different guy..im not sure which guy, but I think I know which one you are talking about. This guy(married-I believe was a cook) walked with the usual $100,000 level-they will need to change this or maybe that is what the show wants since that usually works out. I don't understand why you say you stopped watching after the guy didn't lie about not gambling away his kids college fund? So you want the guy to lie?? I'm sure all legal items have been taken care of-since they know-like you said that lie detectors are not 100% accurate.

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

Oh no, I stopped watching after I realized how sleazy these people were! Odd, since I watch Hotel Paradise (sleazy, but I love it!) Maybe because they all KNOW the others will lie to win. I'm married and have a kid... And I would never lie to my husband, or gamble away our lives... It's sad to me. They wouldn't have me on the show, I certainly wouldn't bring enough viewers. Maybe you can just give me details on the really good parts =)

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

I cannot watch this show. I tried. It reminds me of Jerry Springer. Maybe I am not a realistic person, but I want to think better of people than these people prove to be. I hated Johnny Fairplay on Survivor. I do not respect dishonest people. The only good lie is the lie that protects someone from being badly hurt. This show exposes the good lies and hurts relationships for the sake of money.

Most of these shows are more entertainment value-I guess it's true that folks like to watch/hear about train wrecks-I've only seen the promos for Hotel Paradise...I guess it would be similiar to the show "Bad Girls Club" -I'll watch the show every so often because I keep hoping that a miracle will happen, and these people will show some signs of personal growth-sadly I haven't...I realize that they must plan some of this because it would be boring if everyone got along. Most of these shows will be gone in a year or two-these are not like American Idol or Survivor. I kicked around the Moment of Truth Website you get a mixed bag of why people either watch or don't want to watch the show-I've read many valid reasons(IMO). You would think that they are looking for contestants who have shown patterns of deception, but like some folks have said a person doing polygraphs needs to word the questions properly.

Yes-That's a fair answer, but to counter this the people have made the decision that they are willing to risk this in order for $$. So to some degree they value the opportunity to win the $$ more then the (possible) damage it might cause(or do they believe that they have nothing to hide?).

BTW-I tend to feel the same way that you have expressed that people are genuinely good-ie (feel they are telling the truth when talking with/to).

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

I'm not deceived by "reality" TV shows... I know they do stuff on purpose, script some people and what not... But this one takes the cake... I like the subtle lies that don't hurt anyone... The lies that rip families apart for money just gets to me! That dude I was talking about was just looking for a reason to get his wife to divorce him. I guess that was just as good a way as any... Thankfully he didn't get any money for it. I too like to believe the best in people... But I also know people lie to me. Damn them!

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

My hubby is watching the Lauren episode right now on his laptop... I'm kind of watching this weeks episode right now... I think I'd rather go shave my head than finish watching this! I really really want to like it though!

Re: New Reality Show-The Moment of Truth

ROFL, my hubby just showed me Lauren's sister hit the button! hahaha. She would have left her hubby. That's funny, and sad! Ahh, that was messed up to have the ex ask that question after that too. Their marriage is toast!
