Re: American Idol

So some of you guys have already seen the auditions from TN? I've only seen the ones that have been on t.v. in my area, and the people were terrible!

Re: American Idol 6

Yeah, so far I'm not sure that anyone really stands out, though there were a couple of guys on the last ep that I thought were pretty good. On the first few shows, I'd rather see more singers that show promise and fewer of the awful ones, jmo...

Re: American Idol 6

I saw my first episode for AI6 Tuesday Night, and I thought a couple of the one's they highlighted had the potential to go far. I agree with not wanting to watch as many flops, but you have to fill the time with something. How does everyone feel about the brew-ha about the judges being to mean spirited....Personally I think they could do a better job especially with the younger folks say 18 or under, but I must admit that I think some of these folks need a reality check, and the judges do a darn good job overall.

Re: American Idol 6

Are the judges mean-spirited from time to time? Probably yes, in my opinion. But I think we have to cut them a bit more slack than, say, the Rosie O'Donnells of the world are doing! Can you seriously imagine sitting there hour after hour, day after day, listening to these horrible singers who either are delusional and truly believe that they're "the next American Idol" or are just attention-seekers angling for their shot, however embarrassing, to be on national TV? The much-maligned joking around that the judges do after the contestants leave, as insulting as it may be, is simply a means of letting off steam, and anybody who's ever worked in a high-pressure situation, like a hospital or law enforcement or the like, knows that humor, while it may seem inappropriate to outsiders, is simply a way of makin' it through. (As a middle-school teacher in an urban district, believe me, I know! I love my job, but I'm guilty, too, with trusted co-workers, of making jokes I wouldn't want to be overheard! ) Overall, I think the judges are right-on in their criticisms, though, and they're actually amazingly kind on occasion. What we see, of course, is heavily edited, but there are plenty of "I think you're an awesome person, but you're not right for the show" comments that let people down easy. Frankly, there are lots of misguided hopefuls who need to be told, their friends' and families' encouragement notwithstanding, "Singing is not for you, dawg!"

Re: American Idol 6

We also have to keep in mind, this IS a show. Even these auditions, are in a large part angled toward the viewers, not only the people auditioning. Are they rude? Of course...that's part of what American Idol has been for the past 5-6 years. Are they more rude than before, not necessarily. Should Simon try to cut back on the personal insults/attacks, sure...they're not needed for the show. You sound like a rhinosaraus, fine. You look like a rhinosaraus, not so fine.

And they definitely show too much of the bad singers. I think that, based on previous seasons, they think that is what the public wants. And in some cases, that is what they wanted. But, I think it has gotten a little 'old' seeing it season after season. There are plenty of people that make it through--or close to it--look at Hollywood's weeks, they are packed with people. You see the people at the end of the show that made it through, yet many of their auditions were not shown. Why not show us every "ticketed" person's audition and through in some of the outlandish ones as well? Give the people that deserved it their 15 seconds of fame and give the public a taste of what is to come and even began rooting for the favorites.

I saw one girl, although I didn't catch her name that I think will make it very far. And several people that were good or really good, but only one that I said there's definitely a possible finalist!

Re: American Idol 6

I enjoy the bad singers but this year they are showing almost only the bad singers. Plus they are letting them sing way to long before they stop them. Rosie was just defending the youngest singers. I do think they can be kinder to the 16 and 17 year olds, especially when they seem to be a little slow. To tell someone they look like a bush baby when you know it must be some kind of a medical problem is just cruel. I really like Simon, but sometimes I just cringe at what comes out of his mouth.

Re: American Idol 6

Yesterday Show Tuesday Feb. 6th was a good show. Much better focus on the better performers..I'm glad they gave Ashley(check spelling/name) another chance-she has a very nice voice. This year looks like it will have some very good talents. BTW-Does anyone know how they determined if a contestant advanced when they had auditions with either 2 judges(randy, simon)?? Or when they had auditions with 4 judges-simon,randy,paula,olivia newton?? Did both judges need to agree when they had 2 judges?

Re: American Idol 6

I realize that image is all part of AI, but I think people need to be given a chance to show that they want to become a better person. If the person has the talent-I say give them a chance. I guess for AI it all depends on where you draw the line or maybe they found out more details. Based on the past I think AI has made the choice, and Akron should be allowed to advance. Of course he will be on the hit list.

Akron Watson reportedly was disinvited from Hollywood round:

"Akron Watson, whose successful "American Idol" audition was aired on the San Antonio episode Feb. 6, was uninvited from the Hollywood round of the show, possibly due to a 2003 arrest for marijuana posession."

"Other "Idol" contestants have competed with drug arrests. 2005 finalist Bo Bice was arrested in 2001 for felony cocaine possession as well as in 2003 for marijuana possesion and other charges"

I missed the guys performances except for a couple. I'm shocked that you haven't been blown away by any of the girls perfomances. Based on what I have seen I say the top 3 women/girls are:

Lakisha Jones
Melinda Doolittle
Jordin Sparks

Although would not surprise me if one of these had a surprise departure like Jennifer Hudson just based on how the voting system is on AI.

The only Guys so far that I thought that could go all the way are:

Sundance Head
Chris Sligh

Re: American Idol 6

Interesting top 12.

I was surprised to see Jared and Sabrina get cut. I thought that Sanjaya and Haley would get the boot.

Guess that's what happens when the show is judged by call in voters rather than being professionally judged.
