Re: American Idol

So who does everyone think will win next week?

I'm going to guess Fantasia.

(Although....who knows? Anything can happen with the voting really.)

I think Fantasia too, but if Diana wins, that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Re: American Idol

Congrat to Fantasia, that was one of the most emotional final songs I have ever seen. I felt bad for Diana a little, (espeically when Ryan put his arm around her and said "this night belongs to Fantasia ) but personal I think Fantasia just blew her away, Diana has some years of maturing she needs to do, although I will say she did improve during the season, working with those professionals etc I think was good for her. Look forward to seeing more of her in the future sometime.

I am still upset that Laytoa London was voted off, I still think she is the best singer Idol has ever seen. Unless they do something about this poor voting system they have, I don't think I will watch next year. Too many good singers are having their dreams crushed because of problems with the calling system, and that just isn't fair. I don't want to watch if they end up with a winner (or a second place singer) that didn't deserve to be there and was only put there by a fluke.

Re: American Idol

MrsLisaP- that is what happens with the show when you have people call in to vote instead of having talent scouts judge it. You aren't going to get the most talented person at all.

I was glad to see Fantasia win! I think she is a super singer. Just fantastic.

So happy Fantasia won, she truly deserved it. She really makes you FEEL the song. She is going to be huge! Diana didn't give enough needs training.

Re: American Idol

It was a great show, and I think Diana will do just great - coming in second will still provide her with a ton of opportunities. I feel Fantasia was good, but not as good as Diana. But, that's what makes the world go 'round. Different strokes. I'm happy for Diana because she went as far as you can go up until the last moment

I agree with you. What a great show it would have been if Fantasia and Latoya had been battling for the title. I have gotten over Latoya being voted off only because I know she has a great future given the exposure she received but I think we all know she should have gone farther in the competition.

Re: American Idol

Did anyone else notice that they didn't offer Diana a contract last night? I seem to remember when Clay and Ruben were up there last year that Simon announced that BOTH were getting a contract (and this was before the winner was announced.)

Re: American Idol

I think it was unfair that they didn't mention Diana's technical problem on Monday night. I thought as a 16 yo girl she handled herself with so much grace and character, and I was proud of her. She has improved a ton, and been very teachable to the advise the judges had. I have heard she was in a show like this, about the most talented teenager, last year, so obviously she is going places. To me the one thing still needed to be overcome, and I don't think its intentional, but she comes across in a fake way. It may be that we are cynical of always happy people.

The one reason why I think Fantasia is a better singer than Diana, is that Fantasia makes each song sound unique, she owns the song, and makes it hers. Diana sings it like the original singer did. I would forget what song she sang, because I didn't see any of her in the song. I think thats what Simon was getting at when he said she sounded karaoke. Still she is so young, I think we will be hearing a lot of her in years to come.

Fantasia was soo happy, I loved the ending.

I have to agree with you on that but also Diana can't hit all the notes, she has problems with the low notes and occasionally just hits a sour note. Fantasia doesn't seem to have any problems with the range. She pretty much hits every note. Diana does seem like a sweet girl. I wish her the best.

I don't know . . . even "non-winners" are going far. Look at Clay. He's much bigger than Ruben and he didn't win.

So although some might not be "american idol", their dreams are very much coming true.

Ditto what Juliet said. Diana is a good singer, but she has some stuff to work on. The lower range is horrible.

Re: American Idol

I agree with those of you who mentioned Latoya. She was the best in my opinion. Fantasia is quite a performer however, so I am glad about her win. I would have liked to see Jennifer Hudson go farther as well. I already stated my opinion of the voting system.

Maybe they won't Simon doesn't seem to care much for her after the constant rude remarks to her, and according to USA today Fantasia won by 13.5 MILLION votes. Her single is available for preorder on amazon.

Extra phone lines and extended voting hours paid off: 65 million phone and text-message votes were logged Tuesday, nearly triple the 24 million for last year's finale. Barrino won by 1.3 million votes

DeGarmo said she suspected at the start of the show that she'd lost when producers told the girls, " 'Fantasia, you'll be singing Dreams, and Diana, you'll sing I Believe.' " Realizing they wouldn't have the winner sing I Believe (the first single to be released this summer) twice, DeGarmo put the pieces together. "I was sitting there going, 'Well, you just told me who won,' because they wanted I Believe to be the (final) song for the winner."
