Amazing Race contest

I will be announcing the Amazing Race Contest rules very early, even though Amazing Race starts 2 weeks after Survivor starts.

Since the Mayor has suggested software as a prize this time around I am going to devise a slightly different prize structure, to allow for more winners and more fun.
The random winner, chosen from all entrants that have at least 1 point, will receive the Mayor's software prize.
Anyone will be able to try for additional prizes by committing $5 or a gift certificate with a value of at least $5 to our "pot" of prizes. You will not be required to physically send me the $5 item. You will simply be added to our list of contestants with a notation of what kind of prize you have committed to send to one of the winners. The list might look something like this: (all speculation)

Contestant A's name: $5
Contestant B's name: $5 gc to Pizza Hut
Contestant C's name: $5
Contestant D's name: $5 gc to Walmart
Contestant E's name: $5 gc to Blockbuster
Contestant F's name: $5 gc to Target

etc.

Depending on how many people we get who take this option of contributing $5 in some form, we will have additional winners as follows- highest total points keeps his/her own contribution and receives 4 more. (Requires 5 entrants)
Second highest points keeps his/her own contribution and receives 3 more (Requires 9 total entrants)
Random drawng done from my infamous hat keeps his/her own contribution and receives 3 more (Requires 13 entrants)

If we have more than 13 entrants, the 3rd highest scorer will receive some money/gc's too. But we only had 13 total entrants last season, so this probably will not happen. I hope some of the die-hard Survivor fans will join in on our fun this time around.

Comment here freely. Questions. Complaints. All welcome.

Well, I'll probably participate, but it'll have to be just for the fun of it. I won't be able to afford even the smallest donation unless I inherit a windfall or get a better job. Too many money problems lately.

Sorry to hear that bonnie, but you WILL be eligible for the random drawing for free software that the Mayor is providing.

I definitely want to be part of this contest.
As a Canadian it is going to be a bit difficult to work out my contribution but I am pretty sure that I can go to Amazon or Target or some other online store and buy a GC to email to the winner. Actually it would be nice if everyone went after the same GC, that way if you won, you would have enough to buy something worthwhile. Most of the time $5 will barely cover the shipping .

How come I have all these ads in my post? No one else has this many.

That is an interesting suggestion kayemjay. I think we will devise a short list of online stores from which we will encourage, but not force, each contestant to "purchase" their gift certificate from.
Amazon and Target (which has a $5 minimum e-gift card available) will be the core of our choices. Everyone please respond if you have any other suggestions.

Maybe fast food gift certificates would be OK also? As long as it's something available in all states and Canada.

Yes hattielee I am thinking that would be fine. Kayemjay, which fast-food restaurants do you have in Canada? Is it very different from the US?

Shocked

We probably have about the same as you do. But I don't care much for fast foods. Much sooner have GC from Target or wallmart if they were for a regular store as I often shop down in WA State at my sisters place. Any online ones such as Amazon are fine too because I shop on line and have stuff sent to her house.

I do alot of rewards programs and my research shows that you need Canadian money gc's for restaurants like Red Lobster and Olive Garden, and the Burger King, Applebees, and Chiles say American restaurants only. So.... I think we will encourage, but not force, on-line gc's and gc's for stores like Walmart and Target. If kayemjay wins something I will make sure the distribution is such that it is something she can use.

What about 2 free Blockbuster rentals counting as 1 $5 gc? No strings / totally free rental- not rent one, get one or anything like that. Are there Blockbuster Videos in Canada? Anyone else wish to comment....

Chatter box

Block busters is here but I think you are right about needing Canadian GCs in Canada. Lets not complicate things. I can shop online for things which will ship to my sister or at any regular stores in WA. No big deal as I visit sis often. Besides what makes me think I will win? It goes without saying ,I hope, that the GC I buy will be in American funds.

Guess we'll be waiting a little longer for Amazing Race

From CNN.com Entertainment:

"Star Search," which airs its first tournament finale February 6, will return with another batch of nine episodes on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. starting February 19. The return of "Star Search" had been expected, given the show's strong performance -- particularly in young demos.

The decision to keep "Star Search" going means that Wednesday-night reality entry "Amazing Race," which is currently filming its fourth installment, may not return until late spring or summer.
