V-Chip info needed.....please help!

I got a TV from a co-worker for free. It has a V-Chip. I would like to put this TV in DS's room, but I will NOT have him watching what's on the airwaves now. My problem is that when I go to the menu, go to parental control, then choose V-chip, I get a screen that asks me to enter the 4 digit password! (secret number). I've asked the guy I got the thing from twice and he says that neither he or his wife can remember the "secret number". or if they ever entered one.

So.........sigh, I would like to know if there is any way to "reset" the "secret number". I would really like DS to have a TV in his room, but, I WILL control what he watches at home. Any info on V-Chips will be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Re: V-Chip info needed.....please help!

I can possibly help. What is the brand name/model of the TV - and if you happen to know the mfg. of the V-Chip that would help.

Re: V-Chip info needed.....please help!

Some electronic devices have some kind of button which resets the device to the factory settings. Usually the button is small and needs to be pushed with a thin screwdriver.

There are also devices which are reseted by entering a code with remote controller.

Re: V-Chip info needed.....please help!

Some also have a default code, such as 0000 or 1111 or 1234, have you tried those? You can also try entering nothing, just click the submit or okay option and see what it tells you. I have used that trick around here many times, people think just because it asks for a code that it must have one, but there really isn't one at all. LOL!

Re: V-Chip info needed.....please help!

Thanks all for the information. The guy I bought it from brought in the "users manual" the other day! And guess what! It tells how to reset the "V-chip" password! So I thank all of you for the help, but I now have the directions.

I know the code is (usually) 0000 before someone will change it. You could try it once. It should not harm anything.
