Car denting

Hello. I'm new here to this forum.
I'm a little worried. I dented a car in my neighbour while backing out. The corner of my car's back bumber hit the other car near it's back, close to the little "gas door". I would say the dent is about 4 inches wide and maybe 4 inches high.
The residents weren't at home at that time so I'm going over tomorrow to inform them. I dont' know what to expect? Do I offer to pay for the dent and around how much would it cost? or is car insurance involved here? I don't know much about cars or car insurance so I'm not sure what is involved.
Could I please get some advice so I know what to expect. Thanks

Re: Car denting

Sorry to hear that! But, those things happen...hopefully they will "understand" and I would think whatever both of you decide: if you are willing to just pay for the repair that might work..I doubt?? it would cost enough to even reach your deductible?

If you are still up and see this message (since you just posted it an hour ago), you might want to go put a note on the car or their door...so they don't think someone just hit them and left.

Good luck!

Re: Car denting

Hello.

Thanks for the reply. I just got a chance to read it this morning. Since the people are not home, I'll put the note on their door with my phone number. I hope they take it well.

Re: Car denting

Hi,
Since you're willing to let them know (and did already), and they weren't even home, I bet they'll be ok with it as long as the two of you decide on which way is best to get it fixed. Good luck!

Kat It happens.....

Re: Car denting

In my country, the insurance can pay for the damages but you have to have a police report (it must be reported within 24 hours of incident).

In my experience a 4 inch dent requires re-painting of rear panel to return to its normal state and it maybe a little bit expensive. You can try searching for shops in google such a Ziebart or CarSavers they usually do dent repairs and will give you free estimates.

Don't worry to much, you acted in good faith by letting them know the incident and it was an accident.

Let us know what happen.

Just my opinion. Hope this helps.
