....for my mom. She needs to have a Cardiac Catheterization performed within the next day or two. She went by ambulance to the ER Friday (complaining of severe chest pain./shortness of breath) and admitted shortly thereafter (where she remains). She is a large woman, weighing approx. 300lbs
She has a history of hypertension. Her blood pressure in the ER was significantly high; they are giving her a med (different than her usual Rx) to treat that. She is also Diabetic (non-insulin dependant) and has had to be hospitalized several times with complications stemming from that(ulcers, toe amputation,etc). She is on countless meds for one ailment or another. She is under Dr's care and gets a check-up like every other month. She went into Septic Shock about 7 years ago and almost didn't make it! She was very close to spending the rest of her life on Dialysis. She was sick for many months, had to go through re-hab in a nursing home,etc. The end result was that the infection caused from an infected toenail(not the toe that ahd to be amputated) spread ...........causing bone,etc in her knee to become diseased. They ended up having to perform surgery to remove the diseased bone........leaving her in a wheelchair. She goes to physical therapy several times a week and has come a long way. I am able to take her out (grocery shopping) at least in my minivan.

So I got a frantic call from her around 8:30 Friday night saying that she couldn't breathe and called 911...... I jumped in the van and FLEW (I was doing 85 mph on I-91) to Yale. Her face was reddish-purple when I saw her initially....... kinda matched the sunburn I had gotten on shoulders/upper arms earlier in the day
What concerns me to is that thenight before (Thursday) she had a scary episode while visiting her friend (same apt building). She started having chest pains ......her friend later told her that she briefly lost consciousness, her eyees rolled back,etc. When she came to she was really hot and just didn't feel right!
Kinda attributed it to the heat,etc.....
They performed an EKG which was negative. Her blood pressure, like I said, was high. They gave her Nitroglycerin for the chest pains. She had a stress test done about 5-6 months ago ....that too was negative. Her Dr. wants to rule out any blockages,etc so that's why he wants to do the heart catheterization......
We went up to see her today and there was some paperwork I had to fill out (Living Will, Power of Attorney, etc). What makes the situation even harder is that I am an only child so everything rests on my shoulders! My parents divorced when I was 7 so it was just the two of us for many years. I had to grow up real fast!
I know she is in the best of hands but still ,as with any kinda procedure, there ARE risks involved! Naturally, if God forbid they did find anything (blockage,etc) they would take care of it right then and there.......
I certainly know my way around Yale New Haven Hospital that's for sure!
As soon as I know when they are performing the procedure I'll call my DH so he can come home and stay with the boys. I know she wants me there .....What kinda daughter would I be if I didn't go?
Please, if you wouldn't mind, would you hold good thoughts.

UPDATE:
Mom had the catheterization performed today and they DID find a blocked artery. They ended up doing a balloon Angioplasty/put a stent in. She was resting comfortably when I left the hospital around 6:30. If she puts in a good night (and her bloodwork is good) she will be released tomorrow (7/10)
