bad news about the adoption

Well, as you may know.....hubby was confronted by my ex several weeks ago to adopt the kids. Well, this weekend all that was possibly changed. My ex for some unknown reason to me and hubby and our attorney all of a sudden decided he needs to talk to his attorney about the petition that our attorney drew up....which was a standard one for all adoptions...nothing sneaky in it or anything. (AMong other things he wanted and we wouldn't agree to but I already posted all that in another thread) When hubby asked him about this all of a sudden he brings his mom into it and said she wants to make sure he isn't getting screwed! Go figure. He confronted us about terminating the rights....we pay the money to get the papers drawn up then boom.....mommy dearest comes in the picture? We are about as confused as we can be. Not to mention the fact that the kids are so excited about the adoption and now we may have to tell them it isn't going to happen. This will really screw their little minds up. I am so mad and frustrated and just don't know what to do or think. Hubby is very upset. He was looking forward to this too.

Please pray that things get straightened out and that our attorney can figure out something. Otherwise we know that not only have we lost $750 (which we didn't have in the first place) but we also may lose the trust of the kids. Although this isn't our doing we know that they won't understand that and I just know our 7 yr old will be devastated. She has been telling everyone that she is going to be adopted. She loves her stepdad and can't wait for him to be her legal dad so she can change her name and everything. I just can't imagine what this will do to her.

First,You have our prayers that everything works out the way you want.
I am just putting out ideas to help ease their pain if it does not.
Have you asked about legally changing their names without adoption?Some states allow for childname changes.Then the kids could have friends over to celabrate their name change to step-Dads last name.You could make a big deal out of them having 2 Dads, their live with Dad and their legal Dad.
Again I hope and pray your adoption goes through.
