Just the memory going quickly can make a person go before there time. MIL used to leave food out for god knows how long & eat it & I'm surprised she didn't get food poisning"

That test you saw - I wish they allowed me to be there to see Vic's, since you know how I kept looking up a website called webmd.com that 1 of his Dr's said was "reputable".

Other factore your dealing with which may be the hardest is....."Pride" & she wants to still make her own decisions even if they are medical ones & not in her best interest.

So - Glad you "are" taking her for her tests..........the waiting period really is tough more so on you guys than on her if her mind has been slipping.

Continued prayers the tests are okay, or at least they've been done early to address any more serious medical issues that could arise if things weren't checked at all.

Hi,
We got the test results. She's got a blockage in one of the arteries in her neck which I'm assuming is that blue that I saw while they were doing the test. She's been referred to a Cardiac Surgeon for this Friday and she's gotten worse. She's not leaving food out, she's pretty much not eating much at all, she's gotten a lot weaker and the memory is much worse - we're hanging in there, no choice.

Geez, you & Mark must be a wreck having to know your aunt Leona has blockage in arteries & having to see a Cardiac Surgeon!

My dad had 99% blockage in his coronary artery years ago & "just within the past couple of months" they thought he had more on the "other side" & the thought of him going thru' another heart surgery scared the whole family!! (They said it was scar tissue Thank God).

He was scheduled for a Triple Bypass Open heart Surgery & it ended up being a Quadruple one, but he is still among us - "cuz it wasn't his time to go".

Only God knows the fate of your Aunt & I hope you & Mark can deal with whatever the outcome is which can be so hard either way you look at things.

Hi,
Thank-you all. We took her to the Cardiac Arterial Surgeon who ran more tests and told us/her that the blockages aren't enough to be doing what's going on (she fell again the night before the appointment), and also checked her legs for circulation/blockages and found some small ones - again, not enough for what's happening.
Next is an ultra sound on her stomach as he said there might be a mass or an aneurysm, which would be horrible as he's also said he would "not", under any circumstances, operate on her as she's just too weak and has lost too much weight - Mark and our cousin who was home, had to physically get her into her own house as she just couldn't do it.
So, we wait and daily, her memory gets worse.. and worse.
Though at almost 86 years old, she's said she won't agree to any surgery anyways, and I don't know if I blame her. Course, nobody knows really - what's going on. We're just doing the best we can and being there for her and also calling daily to make sure she's ok, plus it gives her someone who loves her to talk to.

I know it is hard but I can understand your aunt not wanting any more surgeries! They get tired after a while! My heart goes out to you and Mark as I know that you are both going thru a lot of heartache during this! Prayers going up for your aunt, my God's will be done with her.

We took her for the abdominal ultrasound yesterday and we'll find out whatever it shows when (I guess) her next Dr's appointment is. I think that the surgeon (he really laid into her about not eating, then I had a "talk" with our cousin, her son) about her falling, not eating, etc's.. and he's actually doing the dishes, laundry, making sure she takes her meds on time, etc's.. and we're still speaking and friends, he didn't get angry or anything, he's FINALLY taking it seriously.
I do their cooking (and ours), bring it over, also the baking for us and them - their fridge is pretty full right now and I try to listen to whatever my Aunt mentions that she likes, so she's got a roast pork w/potatoes and veggies, a couple containers of homemade chicken soup (she was cold the other day and was talking about it, so I made a bunch), potato salad (she loves it), chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, tomatoes (she and I both love tomato sandwiches), and she's been eating!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, macaroni and cheese and I put extra cheese on the top to melt in, and she had some of that too, and I always make more than enough for her and Pete (cousin) too, and we don't eat there, we eat at home, once we get back home, so I slept today, though I did call her and we talked for about two hours, which is pretty normal. Keeps her from being lonely and sometimes I can just help over the phone - yesterday when we were over there, we did her bank deposit for her, and Mark took it right to her bank and got her a receipt and I did her bills - separated and made one out that she thought she'd paid but hadn't, left a couple notes for my cousin, and talked to him later that night on the phone, so we're all trying.. which helps. A lot.
I slept after I cooked lunch here today as I've been physically and emotionally exhausted, so that probably helped - Mark fell asleep too and our two cats are always ready to take a nap with us! Thanks, your prayers and caring mean so much, I can't even tell you........

Glad her son now realizes how bad your aunt is & is finally stepping up to the plate & pitching in!

Especially since you & mark are trying to help with her finances to keep things going & doing the cooking for them both.

(PS: you made me hungry reading all the nice food that you made your aunty that would help her eat 'cuz they were her favorites).

Hopefully you will be able to not be so physically & emotionally exhausted REALLY SOON !!
