Re: Hubby needs prayers now

Hi Lisa,
That's good about the anti-nausea drug. It sounds like you're waiting on tests, like the PET that should've been done earlier and wouldn't have been done if you hadn't pushed it. Glad you did.
It's sad, that most or much of the time, we need to be our own advocates in our health - but if you have questions, etc's, keep doing what you're doing - ask. Radiation is more localized, do you think they'll change what they decided on? Our prayers are still with you two, and your brother, Dad and family.
Hugs and hang in there, thanks always for the updates,
Marilyn

Re: Hubby needs prayers now

Yup - I tell everyone I know to be thier own health advocate. Today for instance I was told by a Dr. "if you have to go thru' Prior Authorization you may as well forget it"!!

This was for my eye treatment products & frankly I need to take care of my eyes to drive my hubby to Chemo & Radiation treatments.......etc................

I told him "just try" & had to give him the instructions I was told by a supervisor from our state insurance company.
(It will take 2-3 weeks before the authorization is approved or declined - but IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK)!

Normally if I didn't have ANY income - I'd just pay for whatever eye Dr told me I needed that wasn't covered by insurance. Now "I'm forced to ask for that state health insurance to stand by thier summary of benefits & I'm following even thier UNWRITTEN rules".

Re: Hubby needs prayers now

Vic's nausea is "at bay" with up to 3 anti-nauseau medications - but we still have other "medical issues" that required immediate attention no matter what time of nite that he still needs my help with!

His rapid weight loss over a 1 week period still scares me since he "IS" eating & hasn't vomited etc........
(Not sure if muscle tone loss could atribute to that much of a weight loss, but I highly doubt it)!

He used to be an active carpenter working 5-6 days a week, & now hardly has energy at all even to go for a 1/2 mile walk to Post Office. Was reading alot of books & stopped that & naps so much now & it's only 2nd. week of Chemo.

PLUS - he has a back pain in the Kidney area that also scares me.......(Chemo can do a real # on the body)!

PLEASE say a prayer that his cancer treatments WILL work & the cancer will NOT return!!

Re: Hubby needs prayers now

Good news - PET SCAN results showed cancer has NOT spread anywhere else! Better chance of cancer shrinking knowing it's localized to one area.

Oncologist said the sharp pains in kidney area are probably due to where the remaining cancer that couldn't be removed is & actually might be a good sign that the chemo is shrinking it. Only 3 days of chemo - so I find that abit hard to believe.

Vic stopped reading - 'cuz he's outta' books lent to him, but doesn't want any more when we return those. I've added calories in his diet (while trying to keep them outta' mine - LOL) so hopefully his weight not drop at least anymore.

It has been 9 weeks since Vic has worked and maybe it really is muscle mass weight causing weight loss. He said he even notices less muscle in his thighs - but 'cuz it was from 1 weeek to the next that the 5 lbs dropped it really did scare me! I picked up a pamphlet at cancer center library on "eating during chemo" & have added calories by following some of it's suggestions, so fingers crossed for Monday's Chemo treatment weigh-in!

Re: Hubby needs prayers now

Lisa,
Hang in there, gal. Vic's doing the best he can and so are you - could be the chemo causes weight loss - something to ask when you next take him? Can't hurt? If that's it, he'll regain it once he's off the chemo. Great news that the cancer is localized. Prayers continued....
Hugs,
Marilyn

Re: Hubby needs prayers now

This week is an "off" Chemo week, but following week during long 6 hr Chemo they said they'd have a nutritionist come talk to us about how to keep weight up during Chemo. Kinda' ironic the first time I speak with a nutritionist it'll be about keeping weight up (when I should be taking weight off) - LOL!

I've already changed meals to give him 1 & 1/2 times the protein entree & me 1/2 & add butter to his starch & veggies & none to mine - so I think I'm on the right track.

Re: Hubby needs prayers now

Lisa sorry I missed your update about the PET scan! WOW that is great that the cancer hasn't spread! You never know......God created a lot in 3 days! So shrinking of a tumer is very possible! I know that God is still in the healing business and I am trusting and praying that Vic is going to receive his healing!

You are doing great with taking care of the both of you! Many prayers coming your way!
