Re: STROKE

i know how scary that a pearent having a stroke can be...my mother had one teo Monday's ago, and I tried to be calm, but it wasn't possible you just kind of lose it

She was lucky is was a TIA (light stroke)

She like me likes to find out natural cures or at least things that help prevent
stuff like this from happening, her trouble was she waited too long to take care of herself

We have since found out that Ginko Biloba Folic Acid (B9) vitamin B6 B12 and more
are supposed to help

Some studies have even shown that healthy individuals who consume higher amounts of folic acid and vitamin B6 are less likely to develop atherosclerosis than those who consume lower amounts of these substances
(copied from medinformation.com)

You can find tons of info on the net, maybe reading some articles on the web will help you more than what the doctors are saying, it seems I forget half of what they say at the hospital, but when I read it at home I can let it soak in

I'll send a prayer out for you too!

Keep us posted

Re: STROKE

Hi,
I'll add you and your Mom to our prayer list as well. I, too, being an herbalist, like the natural remedys as well. And use as many as we can, though they too, can have side effects, so make sure you look up "everything"! I know what you mean about not being able to concentrate when they're talking to you in the hospital--mostly we're too scared, too worried, for much to sink in.
My husband and I had our cholesterol tested a year ago, and for the first time in my life, it was high --first thing the Dr. said, was Lipitor! (Hubbys was lots higher!) We both said no, I went home and called the American Heart Association and the lady I got was so nice and kind and I had my test results right in front of me (I always ask the Dr's for a photocopy), I read them off and she told me that she volunteered there as hers was just about exactly what mine showed and she had access to all the information volunteering there, and now hers was normal --- she took no meds.... She talked to me calmly, and then sent me out a whole BIG packet of things, recipes, things to eat more of, things to avoid, and I went back and had my cholesterol retested three months later and it had gone down significantly. And we (hubby and I) had it tested again this year and we were both OK, so it might be a good idea just to give the American Heart Association a call -- they have people there that are trained to help familys of strokes too, and for me, there was a big difference sitting home at the table, talking on the phone to a real person, able to take notes, instead of just listening to the Dr., and trying to absorb it all, without her actually taking much time w/me. Just a thought, as it worked for us. Meanwhile, you and your Mom will be in our prayers.
If you have time, please let us know how you both are doing - this is hard on you too

Kat

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Keep relaying on the Lord he will see you through. The Devil is busy all the time but God is constantly busy for his children. I will keep you and your family especially your father in my prayers.

Re: STROKE

Hi Nancy,
We'll keep you and your Dad in our prayers - Great news that he's home! And he won't necessarily "ever" have another stroke, his Dr. can do tests and things and I'm sure he will to make sure he's doing good, and with physical therapy, he'll get much better. Thanks for the update, especially such good news!
Hugs and Blessings,
Kat

Re: STROKE

Hi,

Thanks for being so wonderful on giving us updates - I know we do all appreciate it, and I also know how hard this is on you too.
Oh no, your boyfriends Mom too? He will also be included in our prayers. You two are getting hit from all sides!!!!! Sending you both and your Mom too a hugs (((((HUG))))), and as to the depression---many times the anti-depressants take a bit of time to work, plus he's adjusting to the fact that he's not working now. Lots of times if your Mom or he will talk to his Dr., about the way he feels, the Dr. can adjust the medicine so it will work. Or even change it. Maybe the one he's on, just isn't right for him, that's possible too, the Dr.'s the one who'll decide that, but he has to know about it.
My husband and I are also disabled, and my husband just had his meds switched as they weren't working right, and one of them was the anti-depressant, so sometimes it's not the person, it's getting them on the right meds. Prayers and blessings for you all, maybe you this time most of all, this is a lot for you to go through.
Kat

Re: STROKE

Hi Nancy,
Again, thanks for the updates, we know you're busy and are glad you take the time.
Depression is common when one's whole life changes and it does take time to get used to it, or at least as used to it as you're going to get. It will ease, and his Dr. can also help w/this.
I "think" that the fact his stroke wasn't from a blood clot is a good thing. He's still going to PT, so he's got a ways to go. And with the Dr.'s help, he can probably stay under 200, though trying to get a father, (actually, any guy/man) to diet, isn't fun!!!!
The better he gets though, the more he'll be able to do, and there are things he can or will be able to do without spending money, especially if he's got hobbys. It's a huge scare for him and all of you, and a huge lifestyle change too, so he's getting used to all of that. It takes time, hang in there...

Hugs,
Kat - who'll keep you and your family, and your boyfriends, friend in my prayers. Got it right this time!
