Caution - Gator

I wish I knew what site did this to my computer, but I'm not sure. I do know that it downloaded as I was taking the time to do my points programs.

Gator automatically downloaded two programs to my computer from one of the points sites (or a site from one of the points sites). These programs disguise themselves as useful time management programs, but all they really do it feed you constant popup ads. What I consider especially evil is that I wasn't given the opportunity to cancel or refuse the download.

Look for these programs on your computer and uninstall them if you happen to have them sitting around: DateManager and PrecisionTime. They are both from Gator and aren't worth anything.

In case you're curious, the point sites I was doing are Memolink, Primarewards (and Sklif from Primarewards), and Milesource.

EACH TIME we update, Gator seems to be attached and it is NOT easy to get rid of! Could that be your culprit?

Perhaps, but I wasn't updating it. I haven't even opened the program in months. I'm almost positive it came from a site. But good suggestion though.

I've been getting that thing to - and I just say "no" to installing it.......but it did anyway......and it put something called "GAIN" on my computer - "Gator Advertising and Information network" but it claims there is no "gain" software on my computer........yea right......

I have Kazaa, for looking for old cartoon episodes, not music, but I'll probably have to get the lite version..........

Check it out if you don't have it. It is FREE and gets rid of ALL spyware!

you are not the only one that happened to. It downloaded all that crap on kine. I have no idea what site I was on when it did it but it did. I took them both off thanks to you cause I have no clue what they where called. It made me mad cause I told the darn thing NO also and it still put it on mine

downloaded a version of morpheus last night, and this gator thing popped up. we keep de-installing it, but when we log off, & log back on, it keeps showing back up. it's very annoying!

I am FAR from a computer expert (just the opposite, matter-of-fact) but this program, Ad-aware, has REALLY cleaned up all the spyware(LOTS of gator files, etc) and gotten rid of it from my computer. I am REALLY afraid to download anything onto my computer because I have a VERY TEMPERMENTAL Dell, but I have had NO PROBLEMS with Ad-aware at all.

I agree with vieprivee, AdAware is an excellent program!

I used it earlier to remove Gator....had a problem(would not let me remove it)........rebooted........and then was able to remove the components.

I just installed it on my nieces computer and I was utterly flabbergasted that 169 files and folders were identified and I was about to get rid of all but 5!

This site has great free virus scanning software -- and cleaned my popup adware problem right up!

HELP HELP HELP!! Ok so I am showing my great LOL computer illeterate self. Ok I downloaded the ad-viewer thing and it brough up all kinds of files but I have no clue what they are so how do I figure out what to get rid of and what stays???
