Exclamation Memolink trivia 4/1/2002 = 6

bimonthly is once every two months, so you would get 6 issues in a yearly magazine.

If I'm wrong, please post a correction.

Hi CrazyTim (and all),

I wasn't sure you felt ALL that 100% absolute confident of your answer there, so I thought I'd try to double-check. I just looked up "bimonthly" in the online [Only registered and activated users can see links. Either login above or Register Now] dictionary, and OH BOY, did this help a LOT! (NOT!)

Here's what it says:
---------------------------------------------
<http://m-w.com/images/pixt.gif>
3 entries found for bimonthly.

Main Entry: 1bi·month·ly <http://m-w.com/images/audio.gif>
Pronunciation: (")bI-'m&n(t)th-lE
Function: adjective
Date: 1846
1 : occurring every two months
2 : occurring twice a month : SEMIMONTHLY
---------------------------------------------

So, as you can see, that would give us two very different things, depending on which of the 2 entries we went with... real helpful. I guess I'm just going to go with the top one, just since it was listed first. I don't think I feel it worthwhile enough to go looking for a more definite answer. I've never known which it was.
So not much help, I'm afraid, but we tried. (A little!)

Now I'm confused by the dictionary too! I have always thought that bimonthly when used with magazines meant once every other month, or 6 issues a year.... so I'm going with the first answer.

CrazyTim,
I believe that you are correct, biweekly is every other week, so bimonthly must be every other month.

That's always been my understanding...the prefix "bi-" meaning twice or divided in two (as in twice a month.) Crazy Tim, thanks for trying! You save me lots of time in the mornings, we'll let this one slide, k? LOL
